Home Poker

What's the Game?

One of the best parts of Home Poker is the nearly endless variety of games and variations. You could play Straight Poker, Seven Card Stud, Iron Cross, Pass the Trash, and Sevens Take all in the course of an hour.

The dealer determines what game will be played on a hand. When that hand is completed, the deck is passed to the player to his or her left, and that player becomes the dealer. The deal continues to move clockwise around the table after each hand. It is the dealer's responsibility to ensure that:

  1. All players understand the rules of the game being called, and
  2. There are no changes in the rules or new rules added as the game progresses.
Additionally, the dealer is responsible for ensuring that the cards are dealt properly (no misdeals or cards accidentally flipped face-up instead of face-down). It is also the dealer's prerogative to "call" the game, that is announce out loud what is transpiring throughout the course of the game. It sounds silly, but it keeps everybody's interest in the game, with statements like, "Pair of bullets bets", "The three gets another three", and "Nothing going on in that hand".
