Mark's August Tournament Preview
By Mark Napolitano

August is a very quiet month for Poker though we have 22 tournaments for you to consider taking part in. I am sure you will find something to your liking. This is the time of year that a player should reflect on the past 7 months performance -- maybe take some time out to recharge your batteries, re-visit strategy, take that well-deserved vacation and spend some quality time with family and loved ones.

September will mark the start of a grueling schedule to take us to the end of 2002 in the poker tournament scene. If you do not take this quiet time to reflect, recharge and recondition the mind, body and soul, your goals of achievement may fall very short. It is not all about the cards, but your presence and confidence at the table -- your stress level and your health plays a very important role. There are many pieces of a puzzle that make a successful poker player.

But remember wherever you may go to play, be kind to the poker staff, the dealers and give encouragement, help and support to all those new players at your table.

Mark's Pick of the Month

I will be going for the Front Nine from Hollywood Park Casino.

I am so glad that at last someone realises that we need new players in the current arena, and what a great way to attract them. I am sure that the turn-out for these events will be good, and it will certainly bring encouragement to those that may show up to play for the first time ever in a live event.

It is nice to see all the results and reportings on those big events, but understandably if you are just entering the world of poker these are way out of your league. It's great that for $20 - $30 you can enter a tournament, meet people and play a game you love, have a great time and maybe win some of the guaranteed money on offer. I wish that there were more of these events worldwide for all those smaller players.

Wherever you may play, be lucky and take care
