Player's Stories
The two mischievous little Devils had chosen Las Vegas for their night of fun. Now all they needed was their target. It had to be someone that didn’t look like a gambler, someone that would pose some sort of challenge for what they had in store. After all, it’s no fun preaching to the converted. This was David Wilson’s first visit to the city of lights. He had heard so much about the place that he had to take a look for himself. He took in the shows and the usual tours to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, etc. All in all, it was well worth the visit. However, as gambling was not in his nature, he didn’t think that he would be back again for some time to come. And although he had played a little poker in his youth, this was not really the place for him. David’s total disregard for the any of the Casino’s offerings somehow set him apart from the normal crowd. It was somehow obvious that this man should not be here. Before the night is over, he may wish that he wasn’t... This was to be David’s last night in Vegas. And as he made his way to his room, all he could think of was a good night’s sleep. Then suddenly, he began to feel uneasy. He began to feel a presence, a presence that was all around him. His stride grew longer as he made his way across the casino floor. But somehow, the lift that would take him to his floor was now further away. Moreover, he is no longer heading in that direction. Instead, he finds himself at the cashier’s cage; "Good luck sir" the pretty cashier says as she hands him back his credit cards and $5,000. "Am I dreaming, is this real"? David asks himself. "For God’s sake, what’s happening to me? Wake up David, please wake up". Panic sets in as David eventually realizes that he is awake. And, worse still, he has the urge to gamble. A great overwhelming urge to gamble. He needs to escape and to find a place where he could gather his thoughts. But somehow, he must overcome the pull of the Craps table, the Blackjack, the Roulette... He finally escapes from the gaming floor area and finds himself a chair. "Are you in this hand sir?" the dealer asks. He heard himself saying "yes". But his lips never moved. "It’s a $5,000 sit down sir. No limit hold-em" And before he knew, two cards are dealt to him. It was then that something strange happened; he heard voices speak to him. "Go all-in" the voices whispered, "Have faith". He looked at his two cards, 7-2 off suit. Well now, he wasn’t a good poker player, but one thing he knew for sure, this is not a hand to go all in with. "All-in" David said. He hadn’t meant to say that; he didn’t mean to throw $5,000 into the pot. But he did. Three other players called his bet and the dealer dealt the flop, 2-2-2. David didn’t even notice the fourth and fifth cards that where dealt. Shock had set in as the dealer pushed the $20,000 pot to him. He was the only one who couldn’t hear all the commotion at the table. Apart from the voices, David was alone in his own little world. Then it all dawned on him, the voices were from Angels; they were there for him. All he had to do was listen to the voices. They would guide him. Next hand, David is dealt A-A. He knows what to do with this hand. "All-in" he is saying to himself. "All-in, all-in, all-in". "I fold," said David, as the whole table waited with baited breath for him to act. David could hear the voices sniggering over his shoulder. "Why would they laugh when they told me to fold?" David thought to himself. One look at the flop told him why. A-K-K. He just folded Aces full. "What an idiot I am!" "Voices or no voices, I should have gone all-in. I should have..." "4 Kings take the pot", the dealer says. "What a fold" he tells himself. "What a fold". The sniggering voices suddenly go quite, but not for long... "Go all-in", "Go all-in blind". The voices yell at David. "I'll go all-in, blind" he announces. One by one, four players call David’s bet. The dealer flops over the first three cards, 7-7-7. After various bets and calls, the other players declare their hands. Three full-house’s have been shown. David must now turn over his cards. The dealer waits. The players wait. The two little Devils wait. David turns over a 2 and a...7. Once more, the voices speak to David. But this time, the voices began to fade into the distance as they yelled "YOU LUCKY SON OF A..." The Reverend David Wilson enjoyed his trip to Vegas. He even had $100,000 to spend on the restoration of his church. And as for coming again; it might just be sooner than he thought...
