"Kenna James: Poker Player, Actor, and Patriot" - pt. I

Traveling the globe and playing in the biggest poker tournaments the world has to offer, Kenna James is one of the most recognizable and charismatic poker players on the circuit today.

Since Kenna's first recorded tournament cash, a fourth place finish in an event at the American Poker Classic hosted by the Bicycle Casino in May of 2000, Kenna has gone on to earn an impressive 14 first place finishes, more than a hundred major tournament cashes, and almost $3 Million in winnings in the process.

To help usher in his official joining of the PokerPages team, Kenna took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to offer his thoughts on poker, patriotism, and even his career as an actor.

Proposed UIGEA Regulations: A Legal Analysis

On October 1, 2007, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and Departmental Office (the Board) and the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) introduced proposed regulations mandated by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) signed into law by President Bush on October 13, 2006. Anyone wishing to comment on any aspect of these rules has until December 12, 2007, to submit their comments by email, fax, or post.

The Treasury and the Board are required to address all comments submitted and then, after reviewing the submitted comments, will issue regulations which the agencies hope will become effective six months after “the joint final rules are published.” In all likelihood it will be between nine months and one year before the regulations become law.

Should Dealers Be Allowed to Play?

Should poker dealers be permitted to play in the same cardrooms where they deal? I've come to understand that dealers of other table games, such as blackjack and roulette, are generally not permitted to sit down and play those games in their own house. But it seems that most of the cardrooms here in Las Vegas let their dealers play also.

I inquired about this issue in one of my regular rooms, and they told me that dealers there were permitted to play after their shift completed, but not within eight hours prior to a shift. That sounded to me like the poker room management cared less about the dealers playing than they did about the dealers being fresh and alert when they came on shift.

Wednesday Poker Report From Las Vegas

Well, it's time for the Wednesday poker report. Somehow that sounds funny to me. I had said that my Wednesday reports would talk more about specific hands and strategy so I'll dive right in with a hand I played the other night at the South Point Casino. The casino where they shoot High Stakes Poker happens to be less then a mile from my house.
