2:05

As advertised Phil Hellmuth went ballistic when he flopped two pair and he lost in 10th to a straight on the turn. "Is it personal?" Phil asked the guy behind him when he was called instantly. Phil went all-in for his case 6,500 when he flopped 8's and 7's. The guy had K J J 9 and a 10 on the turn gave him the Jack high straight. Jay Heimowith was beaten all-in with less money to get 11th.

They are done for the night. Chip counts and seat assignments to follow.

"You can quote that, Mike," Phil told me. "Play perfectly all night and get beat in four hands by some donkey who can't spell the game." Okay, Phil I quoted you.

1:35

Still 14 with one hour and change left in the night.

Phil Hellmuth shook each player's hand in case he was knocked out. "Because if I am there will be a major meltdown." Might as well be nice while you can.

Toto Leonidas 33K
Barry Greenstein 50K
Jay Heimowitz 10K

21:55 The Money

Down to 27. The people we lost unfortunately I did not know. So that means the people I do know are a little bit richer, atleast.

Chip Counts

Eric Bloore 38K
Paul Mansfield 32K
Toto Leonidas 30K
Barry Greenstein 26K
Chris Lindenmayer 24K
Jay Heimowitz 20K
Chris Ferguson 17K
Julian Gadiner 15K
Phil Helmuth 13K
Tony Cousineau 1K

20:35 Nearly There

Only Chris Bjorin and John Juanda were recognisable of the 10 people to be eliminated in the last half hour.
Chip stacks haven't changed much as the eliminated players were all low stacks. It is worth mentioning that Phil H is steadily increasing his count and seems to be getting more confident as he goes.

Toto still has the largest count and Barry Greenstein is increasing his worth as well.

DINNER yea!

David Colclough , Eric Froehlich and David Rabbi were the names to go this round.

Chip counts
Toto Leonidas - clear leader - 34K
Paul Maxfield 25K
Eric Bloore 25K
Chris Lindenmayer 25K
Tim Martz 18K
Chris Ferguson 15K
Stuart Fox 12K
Barry Greenstein 11K
Phil Helmuth 12K and looks focussed
Julian Gardiner 15K
John Juanda 7K

The large stacks reported are the chip leaders in the tournament too.

Correction Chris Bjorin should have been 3.5 K

Play resumes at 20:00 local time - cu then

BANG CRASH EXCITEMENT - nope

I guess television no-limit holdem has ruined us for the finer things in poker. PLO is always slow when people get significant chips - so slow it is.

Some counts while we wait for the money:-
Chris Bjorin 35K
John Juanda 22K
Paul Maxfield 22K
Toto Leonidas 15K
Chris Ferguson 15K
Barry Greenstein 12K
Stuart Fox 12K
Julian Gardiner 8K
Tony Cousineau 5K
David Colclough 2K
Eric Froehlich 1K

Alysia left us during this level thanks to Stuart Fox his two Kings and aboard including aKing and two 8s.

17:05 Slowly Now

Progress is slow now. Those to have lost the fight recently
David Williams
John Bonetti
and Joe Beavers

Phil Hellmuth claimed a victim with the lowest of straights and greatly improved his position.John Juanda is slowly building and Toto Leonidas maintains his chips on his table.

16:15 The stacks are getting bigger

At the second break ( those of you who know tournament poker will realise we are at the end of Level 4 not 5 as previously reported) only 8 tables remain ; 72 players 45 to the money.

Recent departures
Robert Williamson III
Annie Duke
An Tran

Eric Bloore is our chip leader with about 26K, the very last hand before the break he got raised out by two duelling pairs of Aces, holding KK88 double suited a King flops and one of his suit completes , the pot was huge, but was of course split between the two remaining players. John Juanda ( gee you hear that name alot) has near to 24K, Toto Leonidas has just on 24K and Julian Gardiner 12K, Phil Helmuth 9K AND Alysia about 3K.

15:45 Play continues

Progress is still fairly slow , we are down to 10 tables of 9.

Those missing during this the 5th level are
Simon Trumper
Padraig Parkinson
Erik Seidel
and David Ulliott

Neil Channing must be out because he was washing his hands next to me in the men's room.

Total starters number 291 today with 3 tables , 27 players getting the money
Place Payout
1. $135,500
2. 74,520
3. 38,105
4. 29,640
5. 25,405
6. 21,170
7. 16,935
8. 12,700
9. 8,470
10-12 5,080
13-15 4,235
16-18 3,385
19-27 2,540

AND a BIg hello to Alysia Chang's relatives from Alysia - she is still in (low in chips) BUT in.

14:42 Flowing along

Well into Level 3 now the tables have reduced to 17.

Too early for significant counts yet but the following people are out

Richard Ahsby
Kirill Gerasimov
Scotty Ngyuen
Huck Seed
Jeff Lisandro
Chris Ferguson
Shoes
Mike Manttan
Dan Heimiller
Josh Arieh
Allen Cunningham

It was easy to spot them because most had entered for the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo tournament, which has now started in the upper part of the room. See Sharla's report on this site.

13:42 Slowing Down Now

Well as always happens in freezout PLO events "fireworks" then "gondola ride" , I guess its mathematics but I've never seen it explained.

Three out and one resurrection :
Outs:
Yvgeny Kafelnikov
Humberto Brenes
and Berry Johnston

Ins:
John Bonetti ( must have been hiding )
AND at 13:35 Phil Hellmuth makes his entrance

Just short of the first break; the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo will kick off during the break and the remaining 20 for the $2,500 Limit Holdem are gathering

12:55 A Few More Come To Play

A few more have arrived and a few have left already

Arrivals :
Barry Greenstein
Robert Williamson III
Berry Johnston
Richard "Chuffty" Ashby
Scotty Ngyuen
Simon "Aces" Trumper
Josh Arieh
David Williams
Alan Cunningham

Departures:
Ralph Perry
Ross Boatman
Huck Seed
Peter Costa
Doug Lee
John Bonetti

12:25 Pot Limit Begins

It looks like 29 tables for the Pot Limit small buyin event - each table had the 5 set empty but many are filled now.

Those I could recognise :-
Toto Leonidas
Jeff Lisandro
Joe Beavers
Kirill Gerisimov
Erik Froelich
David Colclough
Huck Seed
Ralph Perry
Chris Tsiprali....
"Shoes"
Ross Boatman
Annie Duke
Erik Siedel
Devilfish
Tom McEvoy
Barney Boatman
Peter Costa
Anders Berg
David Rabbi
Humberto Brenes
John Juanda
Yvgeny Kafelnikov
Doug Lee
Julian Gardner
Mike Manttan
Dan Heimiller
Padraig Parkinson
An Tran
Neil Channing
John Bonetti
Chris Ferguson

And as I watched table 29 8 minutes in our first victim upped and left . Guess he can enter the 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo at 2:00 pm

10:55 Good Morning World

Good morning or whatever from The Barracuda. It's Father's Day in America; not so in Australia , we wait until September, but Happy Father's Day all round anyway.
