Event # 10 - $2,000 Limit Hold'em - Day 2 Down to 1- Reza Payvar wins the event and the bracelet!

Reza Payver

3:07

And we have a winner! Reza Payvar has pavared his way to a WSOP bracelet. Congratulations on a tremendously played game!

1 Reza Payvar $303,610
2 Toto Leonidas $160,185

3:00
It almost happened, but Toto caught an Ace when he was all in against Reza's JJ. However, the chip count is quite ominous. Reza has about a million to Toto's 100K.

2:40
Unless Toto can pull more magic with the little cards, Reza has a little over a 4 to 1 chip lead over Toto. He has about 900 with Toto holding 200 or so.

2:15
John Myung finally loses his footing and cant hang on any longer. In an amazing hand, John limps in from the small blind thereby setting off a string of betting that ended up with both players getting three bets in the pot. The flop comes Kh Qs 3s. John bets, Toto raises and John calls all in with all he has left. Toto shows a measly 73 and John a powerful A9. Unfortunate for John, only a J and a 2 followed the flop to take him out by a pair of threes. The hand waxes poetic of a previous hand that had landed on Toto earlier in the evening.

3 John Myung $83,755

2:00
OK Folks. We are beginning to move a tad off center. Try this on for size.
Toto Leonidas - $145,000
Reza Payvar - $915,000
John Myung - $80,000

1:45
Who says a Q6 cant beat a Q7? Well, John doubles up through Toto by getting all in and catching two pair with his Q6.

1:30
This time it is John's turn to do the deed. He now doubles up and the chip count shifts once again. This will end up being not only a game of poker, but most of all a game of stamina. The current chip count, and I only mean current:

Reza Payvar $615,000
John Myung $355,000
Toto Leonidas $185,000

Does this look familiar???

1AM
The biggest play of the night....get it hot off the press...read all about it!
As a typical move, the button, Payvar this time raised. John Myung folded and ToTo called. With the flop of Qs 8c 3h, Toto checked and Payvar bet. Toto called. The turn came 3s. Toto check, Payvar bet and Toto raised, Payvar reraised and Toto called. The 4c fell on the river, Toto checked and called when Payvar bet. Payvar had a 34 and with exasperaton, Toto folded.

This could be the turning point for Toto. He is now the short stack with only about 80K. The other two look pretty even, but, together will make life miserable for Toto.

12:50
It is beginning to be a very long night for everyone now. Tempers are flaring and patience is waning. Now,..a little about the players...no really. It has been a very long day now for these 3 men, and their tiredness is beginning to show. A few plays has evoked a few well chosen words and it looks like the fun has ceased and the playing is all that is left now.

12:45
Such a funny game. The chips move round and round the table, just like clockwork. The button raises and the blinds fold. Then, you get a hand where they somehow get hooked up and a player wins with a 93 offsuit by spiking a 3. Who'da thunk it.

12:20
And Reza is back in the lead....and on second we have John with Toto sliding into 3rd. More excitement to follow...HA...gotcha didnt I?

11:50
Toto is from the Phillipines and is 44 years old. He lives in Los Angeles now and enjoys playing in all the majors at the L.A. casinos as well as the WSOP events.

Reza goes by the nickname "fish", is 42 and works as a mortgage agent.

John is the youngest of the 3, at 31, is a pro poker player and has cashed in many many events.

11:45
And the beat goes on....and the beat goes on...Reza is back in the lead, but not by all that much. It looks like a pretty even field to me. With about 1,113,800 chips in play, each are close to 400K. With my luck, we will break a record tonight for the longest WSOP ever played. NOT! Toto 300K, Reza 400K, John 360K. Just got a count. Pretty dadgum close.

11:20
Back from break and at it again. This time perhaps there is a bit more enthusiasm. The bracelet just might seem to be more of a possibility for everyone now. Perk up....

11:00
After a little break of about 15 minutes, the players will be elated to go to 10K/20K limits.

10:55
Toto put to the test his small but effective full house against John. He took down a huge pot and increased his face value by 50%. As strange as it seems, the players are actually about even stack wise. A few plays and it is like the game has begun all over again.

10:45
Seems that Reza has lost a little ground during the last 15 minutes of play. He has slipped under 600K now to about 525K. That brought John with about 325K and Toto with about 250K within reach of catching the long lasting leader.

10:30
I think the players are falling to sleep. They have tried every thing under the sun to get something changed. Unfortunately, Jack Effel says he cannot make those decisions. They would like to change to no limit. No. They would like to raise the blinds. No. Perhaps a little Roshambo is in order? Rock, paper, scissors could make fast work of this endless game of limit poker.

10:15
With the blinds at 5k/10k and the limits 10K/20K, at least some chips are being exchanged. Reza has over twice what John and Toto have together. John is slowing increasing his stack and Toto has sheared off several thousands in the last few hands.

9:47
Time to hunker down for a long stay at the poker table now. The stacks are huge and this is limit. So, there you go. We could be here forever. Although Reza is topheavy with chips, John and Toto are about even and it will be quite a battle tonight.

9:25
Miami John is in the cutoff position. Toto with Button. Reza small. John Myung bb. Miami John raises all in, Toto calls as does Reza. All three players wish Miami John good luck. The hand is checked down by the remaining players. The board shows Ac 6h 9h Ts 9c. Toto shows his pair of Tens with the K T and Miami shows his hole cards, 3 3. Reza mucks. Miami John leaves in 4th. Congrats John. You had quite a roller coaster two days with this event and making it to 4th is quite a success. Looks like you can freeroll the rest of the WSOP with your $73,285.

4 Miami John Cernuto $73,285

9:20
Imagine having 1000 dollar chips. Now, stack them 20 deep. Now make a triangle of 5 then 4 and so on, making 300,000. Now, on top of that triangle, build another, just a tad smaller, with 3 stacks, 2 and then 1. That is another 120K. On top of that, stack several stacks of 5000 chips and you have what Reza is sitting behind. Be still my heart. He is at about 640K now.

9:15
With no luck at all Miami John tried to go against Toto. After the board of 3h Jd Qh 3h 8s, Miami turned over A T and Toto J K and left Miami John looking mostly at felt. He has only 40K left to do battle with, and that aint many folks. I wish him all the luck in the world.

9:10

Miami John Cernuto 85K
Toto Leonidas 260K
Reza Payvar 590K
John Myung 200K

8:58
Tommy Garza called for his final 6K. Toto on the button slaps down the 6K, Reza calls in the small blind. John checks in bb. Flop Td 8h 8d. All players check. 9d on the turn. John bet 12K, Toto folded and Reza showed a pair of deuces, and folds. John made the flush with the Jd 5d and Tommy turned over the Qd and 5s. The river came a 7c taking Tommy out in 5th.

5 Tommy Garza $62,820

8:50

Rodeen was 2 behind the button, Tommy on the button. Tommy completed Rodeens all in and Reza calls. Flop comes Js Kd 3c. Reza bet Tommy folds. Reza shows the K4 and Rodeen the Ad9c.

The turn and river bring another 3 and a 4 knocking Rodeen out.

6 Rodeen Talebi $52,350

8:40
Chip count update

Rodeen Talebi 30K
Miami John Cernuto115K
Tommy Garza 30K
ToTo Leonidas 285K
Reza Payvar 550K
John Myung 140K

8:30
Miami John Cernuto just got his 6th massage for the day and handed over 55$ to the lady. He said to me, my back is killing me from so much sitting, but, about every 30 minutes means another $10,000 so, I can afford it. Then he just grinned that sweet John Cernuto smile. He is such a honey.

8:20
Either I am really really tired, or this was funny. The live game lady came over the loud speaker announcing that someone had lost their hearing aide. Then, she said, I doubt you can here me but...

8:15
Rodeen pushes all in against Miami John Cernuto and doubles up with a 9c Qd. Rodeen raises preflop, Miami John calls. Tommy in the bb folds. The flop comes 3s 9d 4d. Miami John bets and Rodeen raises followed by a call. Rodeen is all in. Miami John shows big slick and the turn river combo shows 6d Jc making AK the loser. Rodeen pushes up to about 95K in chips now.

8:05
Jay raises to 12K UTG. John asks him how much he has left. He then raises, Jay calls. 4s 3c 8h. Jay bets and John calls. Jay is all in and shows AQ. John a TT. The turn comes 2s and the river an insult to injury to Jay, another T for John.

7 Jay Helfert $41,880

8:00
Reza and Toto battle it out, moving chips over to ToTo. Toto raises and Reza calls. Flop 6c 9c 3s. Toto bets, Reza raises, Toto calls. 4s Toto checks, Rezo bets, Toto checkraises, Reza calls. 6d. Toto checks, Reza bets, Toto calls. Toto shows A9 while Reza has K9.

7:59
Second hand in Jay held AQ and ran up against Reza with a pair of eights. The board was uneventful and Jay is down to about 20K now.

7:55
Limits are 6K/12K with 3K/6K blinds.

6:25
We have had a few all in hands with the short stacks and they have managed to hold on by taking the blinds. Tommy and Jay have both boosted their stacks and now are going to boost their hunger pains. We take a 75 minute break and will return at 7:45.

1 Rodeen Talebi 35K
2 Miami John Cernuto 200K
3 Tommy Garza 38K
4 Jay Helfert 40K
5 Toto Leonidas 310K
6 Reza Payvar 365K
7 John Myung 195K

6:15
Chuck (Robert) Shultze made his move against John Myung and lost. He held Ah 7h and John the Ts3s. THe board treated Chuck really badly again, Kd 8d 3h 5s 4d making Johns pair of 33 golden.

8 Robert "Chuck" Shultze $31,410
This was Chuck's first final table in his life. He is Nederland Texas, near Beaumont, is 39 and a businessman. Great show today Chuck.

6:10
My Texan just got a huge blow to his stack. Preflop Robert (goes by Chuck) raised and Toto in bb calls. The flop of 9h 4c 9s Toto checked called Robert's bet. The turn brought a Jd . Toto check raised Robert and Robert reraised, Toto called. The river brought an 8d. Unbelievably, Toto checked and Robert checked also. Robert shows the A9 and Toto, pulling out a rabbit, shows 89 for the win. Another short stack has been identified after that hand.

6:06
There are two really short stacks now, just gritting their teeth and hanging on for the ride. Tommy Garza and Jay Helfer will vie for the next position if lady luck doesnt come for a visit soon.

6:02
Just as soon as Robert built his stack, he released a bunch of his chips to Toto. With a board of 4 J J A J, Toto flips over JT and Robert shows AK.

6:00
Only 4 hands later, the aces visit another player. Robert Shultze and John Myung get together for this dance. With the flop of 3s 7d 3d, John bets and Robert raises. Turn comes Ts. John checks, Robert bets, John calls. The rivers arrives another 3 and John checks it to Robert who bets. John calls. Robert shows the power of the rockets and John folds.

5:49
Wowie. What anatomy it takes to play this game. Reza Payvar and John Myung got heads up after Reza raised and John reraised. The flop came Kc 4d Ks. Reza checks and John bet. Reza pulls a check raise and John calls.
Turn 2h
Reza checks and John bets. Reza pulls yet another check raise. John calls.
River 4h
Reza checks, John bets and Reza FOLDS. John mouths to his friends (A Q). My o my o my.

5:45
The aces came back to back on the table. This time chip leader Reza Payvar caught them and played against Jay Helfer who held 99. Both were in for 15K preflop and after the useless flop for Jay of Q T 4 he gives up the hunt to Reza who bet. This makes Jay short at about 35K now.

5:41
Eric Liebeler had those nasty ladies and found he was up against the mighty AA held by Texan Robert Shultze. Eric ended up all in and the board showed 9 4 4 3 7 keeping the AA sweet.

9 Eric Liebeler $20,940
Eric is Los Angeles, is 42 years young and practices law. He has won some big tournaments at the Bike and the Commerce in L.A.

4:35
Although Michael Chow took Theodores chips off him, John Myung just removed those plus some when the board came 5d Jh Ts. Chow bet and John raised. Chow called. the Qs hit the turn. John bet and Chow called. The river came another J. John bet and Chow called. John Myung turns over twenty miles of railroad track for a full house. Chow mucks and says "I just cant beat you."

4:30
Theodore Park ran into pocket aces and lost his bid at the final table.

12 Theodore Park $11,515

4:23

13 Greg Mueller $9,425
14 Kelly Harmon $9,425\

Greg had a monster with AK and went against T8. The board brought an 8 and big slick died.

Kelly sat with A Q and John Myung had 67. Flop came 5 5 7, the turn a 4 and the river a T giving John two pair and Kelly some big cards.

4:07

Toto Leonidas is drowning in chips now. The remainder of the field is hanging tough, but, Toto popped Kelly Harmon with his KT when Kelly thought much of putting a lot on that murderous AK. A T hit the board on the flop and the King on the river to give Toto a nice take down.

4:00

15 David Blatt $$9,425
16 Barny Boatman $7,330

Barny raised and Jay Helfert reraised. Barny pushed all his chips into the middle and went for the gold. Jay called. Barny had 8d 6d and Jay a pair of jacks. Board showed 2c Kd Qd giving Barny hope, and even more when the 6s giving him a dis pair but despair hit when the river showed a Js taking Barny to the showers.

3:50
After Sam Change lost most of his stack to Michale Chow when Chow found a flopped full house, he had no luck at hanging on to his remaining 12K He drops out 17th when his A 5 just hung in suspension never improving against a pair.

17 Sam Chang $7,330

3:30
