3:04
We have a winner!!!!
Chad 2c 8 4 A 6 4 J
Denis 2h 5 5 2 T A 5

Chad turned over 7th street and said No, didnt get it. All yours. He was a very gracious contender and a very, very good poker player (and very handsome too!)

1 Denis Ethier $160,682
2 Chad Brown $ 89,838

2:20
Stand by......it aint over yet! Chad has mounted a comeback and is back to about 170K. He hit three tens on one hand, three queens on another, got Denis to follow him to 7th street only to fold on one hand. Both these men are so calm, cool and collected. They move with intention and they mince no words. They play cards. Plain and simple.

1:52
Somebody get an ambulance, the deck is beating Denis to death. And bring oxygen for Chad, cuz it cant hurt. Chad has about 50K now. Just enough to make antes and bring ins for a few more.

1:49
I think I hear someone singin' in the background. Chad pulled out three fives and a six low after Denis bet it to the end. Chad had A 2 5 in the hole with 5 6 5 4 showing. Denis had a low but not good enough and no hi to speak of.

1:40
I would have to say it is all over but the crying now. HOWEVER....I see no fat ladies singing. Chad is down to 45K after the last fiasco. He bet it the entire way, then, when Denis came out firing on 7th street, he folded. Hmmm...

1:25
Chad managed to eke a few chips back his direction. However, the limit is going up to a 2000 ante, 2000 bring in and 6K/12.

1:20
Chad needs help now in the worst way. He is down to about 75K.

1:15
The beatings continue. Chad had 9TT2 and Denis 4554 showing. After a bet and call each street, Chad showed K8Q and Denis 36Q. On 7th, Denis checked and Chad bet into him trying to bluff two higher pair and Denis must have picked up on it as he called him down, winning the pot.

1:13
Denis has the death grip on Chad now. Chad is holding about 110K now versus Denis's tower of power of 448K.

1:10
And back again it goes. Chad with 3355 on the board and Denis with 8TKT. Chad had no surprises in the bucket this time but Denis did. He had a JJ4 making him two pair and golden.

1AM

Denis just lost 48K back to Chad with A A Q 4 on the board and Chad had J 3 7 8 but cleverly had a pair of sevens hidden to win the pot.

12:53
And even more. At the showdown, Chad held Aces up and Denis had a great low and a straight. That leaves Chad with about 130K. Denis is running hot now and owns the table. Denis has about 420K.

12:47
More chips migrated to Denis in a unremarkable hand.

12:30
Sorry folks, these guys are splitting pot after pot. I dont think you really want me to tell you each and every hand. My fingers would fall off...
12:20
Denis just pulled a 40K pot off of Chad uncontested.

12:15
Denis Ethier has a long history of cashouts as well and would love to be the brand new owner of the long awaited and desired symbol of success...THE Bracelet.

12:13
Chad Brown has played in many WSOP events and has moneyed in a number of them. He made a 2nd last year in the 7 Stud event and a 3rd in 2002 Omaha Hi/Lo event. He is seeking his first gold bracelet and 1st place tonight.

12:10
The chip count between da boys is almost even. Chad has a few more but not enough to make much difference.

12:00
And then there were 2. Jennifer Harmon tried to catch something to beat Denis and couldnt find the cards. Zip Zero Nada came her direction and she gives up the ghost for 3rd place today. She had a low draw and could have caught any pair to beat his 44, but lady luck turned her back this time.

3 $53,903

11:45
Let's pump up the jam and take it to yet another level. Level 17 brings the ante to 1500, a 2K bring in, a 5K completion with 5K/10K limits. Along with the level increase, the players will take a 15 minute break.

11:35
Jennifer just dumped off 24K to Chad by going with his bets all the way to the river and then folding. That takes her down to about 75K now.

11:25
A quick chip count before it changes.
Jennifer 110K
Chad 245K
Denis 230K

11:19
It was T Fu's turn to run into the Chadassassin. T Fu had Kings and Chad had JJ 77. Another 7 boated Chad and T Fu was drawing proverbially dead on 7th. Nary a thing could help him. Great game Sir.

4 Tim Fu $38,502

11:10
..and then one hand someone wins with an Ace high and scoops...and then another Lance has Kings up and gets slammed by Chad with a flush. Unfortunately, this hand took Lance out of the picture for the remainder of the event. Congratulations Lance. It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife Carrie.

5 Lance Elderman $31,828

10:50
T Fu brings in with 7c. Chad calls with Jc. T Fu 6h, Chad 7s bets. T Fu calls. T Fu Th, Chad 4d. T Fu bet, Chad calls. T Fu 8h on sixth and 3h for Chad. Both check. Chad shows a J T T for Jacks up and T Fu a J 5 3 for a low and a straight and .. .. .. SCOOPS!

10:40
Finally a hand....at last at last.
Denis brought it in with a 5s and Jennifer raised with her 7h. Denis called. Jen caught an Ac and Denis an 8h. Denis bet, Jen called. 9s for Jen and a 5c for Den. He bets and she calls. 6th street brings a 5h for Jen and a 4d for Den. Den bets, Jen raises and Den calls. There is a bet on the end and Denis shows an A 2 3 for the wheel and Jennifer a low only with Ace high. Denis scoops a biggy.

10:17
Bonnie finally caught a hand that ended up being second best. She thought she was in like flin and made it worth her while by getting down to the felt. She made a six high straight and was beaten not only by a seven high straight but he also had some hidden power to take down her low. Job well done Bonnie. See you tomorrow at the Omaha Hi/Lo.

6 Bonnie Rossi $25,155

10:15
Break
ante 1000, 1500 bring in, 4K/8K limits

10:05

Denis 91K
Lance 48K
Bonnie 30K
Chad 180K
T Fu 76K
Jennifer 140K

9:40
Lots o'choppin goin' on now folks.

9:15
This is indeed a funny game. Just when I think I could do it, I absolutely change my mind. And I used to do it, that is the scary part. Oh, the school of hard knocks.

Jennifer shows: 6s 7s 9s 2s

Bonnie shows: 7c 2d As 2c

After the betting dust settles, and they show their hands...I am wondering if you thought Jennifer would end up high and scoop. Or did you think Bonnie was going low. Jennifer ended up with an A 3 Q, all red for the low and Bonnie took her part for the high showing a 3 3 8 for two pair and a low. I think that actually reading the board of stud, especially this hi/lo is a lot harder than it appears. Or not.

9:12
Phil Penn Sr. fell from grace within a matter of two hands. He had chips and suddenly he didnt. After T Fu crippled him, Lance finished him off with a full house. Phil had a pair of aces, but not nearly enough to battle Lance's fours full. We lose Phil after he came to the final table in 4th chip position.

7 Phil Penn Sr. $20,021

9:10
T Fu is screaming stop the bleeding, well, if he could he would. So, instead of doing that, he just makes an aggressive move at Phil Penn Sr. and somehow manages to win with Jacks up. Phil didnt show his hand but he had two eights up. This hand reinforced T Fu for a few more major skirmishes.

9:01
Amazingly enough, there have not been but one or two split pots. No one has been capable of making the low. Jennifer just lost a bundle to Denis Ethier wen he showed her only two queens and she mucked after the showdown.

8:45
T Fu seems to be losing his footing now. He was very confident but lost a big hand to Chad and has lost his sense of well being.

8:42
Jennifer Harman relieved Chad of quite a few chips when she toppled his Tens up with a hidden three of a kind.

8:35
8 Tom McCormick $14,374

Over the past 10 years, Tom has made 8 final tables at various WSOP events. He is still looking for that indefineable golden bracelt. He has managed to take home a load of money though.

T Fu and Tom McCormick bolster the chip leader by at least 80K more. Chad shows a flush and a 7 low for the scoop, take down and partial cripple.

8:30 And we're off and running!
Jennifer Harman leads out winning the first pot against Phil Penn. She dragged a 60K pot with two small pair, treys and fives.

8:25
The players are filling out their player profiles for ESPN or WSOP or LMNOP or somebody. As soon as they finish we will get the cards in the air.

Ante 1000, bring in 1000, completion 3000, limit 3000/6000

8:15
Back from dinner break

1 Jennifer Harman 48K
2 T Fu 110K
3 Chad Brown 140K
4 Tom McCormick 21K
5 Bonnie Rossi 60K
6 Lance Elderman 39K
7 Phillip Penn SR. 62K
8 Denis Ethier 73K

6:45
The tides have changed a bit and our chip leader is now Chad Brown. I was so hoping we would have 3 ladies at the final table. But, alas, Lettie couldnt hold on for just a little while longer. To add insult to injury, it was another woman, Jennifer Harman, who took Lettie out of the competition.

9 Lettie Tanhueco $9,240

6:40
Nothing feels worse than getting married to those sharp pointy things. One showing and one in the hole. For some reason, and I think most of us do this, we think the hand cant do anything but get better and better. Then, the 7th card hits the table and there ya sit, two lousy aces, no low and no second pair. They are like loose women. Mezmerizing.

Unfortunately, Bonnie just fell into the trap of believing. And they let her down to the tune of about 16K chips.

6:30
There must have been a good concert or an A bomb or something as we dropped these 4 in a heartbeat. And the best news of all....THERE ARE STILL 3 WOMEN IN!!!!!!

10 Mehdi Vatan $9,240
11 Ron Ware $7,187
12 David Brody $7,187
13 Anthony Bart DeLuca $6,160

6:20
14 Howard Lederer $6,160

Howard Lederer gets pot committed against the chip leader, Lance Edelman. Howard made the raise on 3rd street and Lance who brought it in for a 3 reraises putting Howard all in. Howard had 4h and showed a pair of nines. Lance had 3c and shows the 6c 8c. Long story short, by sixth street Lance had a flush and Howard had zippo but a draw for a low that never materialized.

6:15

Steven Shkolnik is no stranger to winning. He has a comprehensive list of 33 cashes for a total of $327,821. Between the 2004 and 2005 WSOP series, he has cashed a total of 5 times making a 2nd place in the Limit Hold’em event in 2004 for $95,820.

6:00

15 Steven Shkolnik $4,620
16 Vipul Kothari $4,620

There were 279 entries today for this Stud 8 event. The buyin was $2000. The payout is as follows:

1 $160,682
2 89,838
3 53,903
4 38,502
5 31,828
6 25,155
7 20,021
8 14,374
9-10 9,240
11-12 7,187
13-14 6,160
15-16 4,620
17-24 3,080

5:57
Level 14 has now begun. See below for limits. :cP

5:53
Howard Lederer just got hammered in between the low and the high. The pot started out four way between Bonnie, T Fu, Howard and Lance. Lance opted out after he had donated about 16K. That left the two winners and Howard. Bonnie screeched by with a seven lo and T Fu had a set of twos on the board and they held up. Howard had 3 3 as his hole cards and had 5 6 Q 6 showing. Seventh street brought him a 2 which did absolutely nothing for his hand.

5:46

Just a few more minutes at this level. This will be the last level before we go to din din. We raise the stakes now to a 500 ante, 1000 bring in, 2500 completion, 2500/5000 limits.

5:45
Back to back hands brought Jennifer back into the ballgame. She was looking for a low with 2 4 6 and ended up catching another two and two more sixes for a boat. Chad had no low and she doubled up + again.

5:37
Jennifer Harman is running on fumes. She is all in on 3rd street, 2h showing. She has one contender. Jennifer receives her cards and is none too happy until she gets 7th and ends up with a flush. She held 2h Ah Qc Ks 8h 6c Qh

The opponent had Ad 7h Ac 3d Jd 4c and Jc. Jennifer scoops and doubles up plus the antes.

5:30
Bonnie had a 2 4 6 showing, Phil Penn an A 4 7. Howard had a 7 A Q and after Bonnie bet and Phil raised, he gave it a great deal of thought and folded. Phil caught a 9 on 6th and Bonnie a 3. Phil bet and Bonnie raised all in. Amazingly, Bonnie actually had a 6 2 in the hole and had two small pair only. Phil had a 6 8. The final card saved Bonnie, not her final card, but his. She ended up with a Q and he a J. The pot was split, but she was reaaaaaaaaally treading some water on that one.

5:20
Anthony just doubled up and picked up the antes to boot.

5:15
The field is now diminshed to two tables and the battle ground is being set by redrawing for seats. The chip count looks like this:

Seat Name Chips
1 T Fu 34K
2 Phillip Penn, SR. 56K
3 Lance Edelman 62K
4 Tom McCormick 45K
5 Howard Lederer 56K
6 Mehdi Vatan 8K
7 David Brody 19K
8 Bonnie Rossi 12K

1 Chad Brown 70K
2 Anthony Bart DeLuca 10K
3 Vipul Kothari 23K
4 Lettie Tanhueo 46K
5 Denis Ethier 29K
6 Jennifer Harman 16K
7 Steven Shkolnik 33K
8 Ron Ware 24K

5:00

17 Vince Burgio $3,080

Vince is a long time friend of Mark and Tina Napolitano. He is a gentleman and a scholar. Vince collared a "threepeat" at the World Poker Classic this past April. He is a well known and respected player and has been a fixture at the WSOP for over 10 years. In 1994 he won a coveted gold bracelet from the WSOP in this very event.

4:58
Some really large pots are being scooped now. Im talking about 40K+. A bragging hand just took a huge pot and had a caller the entire way. The winner had a straight all the way from the Ace to the seven.

18 Al Ruck $3,080

Al made the final table of the 14th event this year at the series and pulled out a 3rd for $51,440.

4:51
I have a special message for the loving Mom of one of the players today. His name Lance Edelman. He says "Hi Mom and I miss you".

4:48
The cards are back in the air. The ante is 400, bring in now at 600 and limits at 2K/4K

4:45
Lance Edelman played this event last year and came in 6th place. He has amassed a huge amount of chips between yesterday and today and looks like he is heading for a repeat.

4:30
15 minute break

4:20
19 Tom Slattery $3,080

4:10
20 Ron Long $3,080

One player got up and hit his chair which arbitrarily landed on the tournament director. Not a good move. He is young and had to go to the naughty corner for 10 minutes. I do like it that John Grooms keeps his No tolerance policy in place.

3:50

21 Mel Judah $3,080

Mel had Kings up and ran into a 7th street set made by Lettie Tanhueo which took him out of the tourney. By the way, we still have 3 gals in, which makes it better than 10% now. ;)

3:34
Wham bam thank you maam, and three more are gone.

22 Jean Robert Bellande $3,080
23 Larry Eubanks $3,080
24 Xiaomei Zuo $3,080

Jean Robert Bellande came today as the chip leader and got popped one time too many.

3:30
The votes are in and Farzad Rouhani is out. Farzad has many accomplishments under his belt in 7 stud hi/lo including a 14th in the first stud hi/lo event during the 2005 series. He also came in 2nd in the Five Diamond World Poker Classic this past December.

3:28
Player 26 is gone and the bubble is next. I hate this part. It brings back so many dreadful memories and months of counseling.

3:25
The next level will be level 12. 300 ante, 500 to bring in, 1500 completion and 1500/3000 limits. Vince Burgio became very aggressive and picked up the antes and bring in twice in a row and then got involved in a nice pot with Jennifer Harman. She gave it up when he hit a pair of queens on sixth street, had an ace showing and bet. It was a sweet pot for him and gave him some more breathing room.

3:05
Gavin Smith and Alan Boston cant make it stretch. They both put their hands to the test and came up empty handed. 26 left.

2:50
28 left. 4 til the money.

2:42
Color me silly, but I have this thought. Erik Seidel is out. Several players yesterday were playing Omaha and had signed up for the stud 8. Most of them ended up at the stud 8 tables. Erik is now playing in the NLHE 5K event. He apparently didnt see himself finishing in the money today in the stud event as he was short stacked. Personally, and this is just my feebleness, if I am in one tournament, and have signed up for another, I am certain there is a part of my brain that is working against doing well in tournament number one because tournament number two is waiting and the anticipation somehow could, now I just say could, subvertly sabotage event number one. Just a thought.

2:15

Well, we're off like a dirty shirt. 31, not 32 players remain. Alan Boston did not hit 15 scoops in a row and make his chip count 69K. There was an inadvertent zero added to see if you guys were paying attention....NOT. Sorry about the confusion. He actually has 6,900 chips.

It is over for the night. I know, I know....it will be back tomorrow at 2PM. Get some rest. 31 players are left, 7 from the money. See you there!!!

2:30
Drat...I was watching the fast paced action at the stud event and missed the "Phil Helmuth Show" over at the PL Omaha. I hear it was a humdinger of humdingers. Chair kickin', cursing, calling the guy who drew out on him a donkey...DRAT.... It was a part of the circus I didnt want to miss!!!!!

2:20
Bwahahahahaha.....dig this....there are 32 left and 3 of them are ladies. Jennifer Harman, Lettie Tanhueco and Bonnie Rossi. Bonnie cashed in the $1000 event on the 15th and 2nd in the Omaha Hi/Lo in 2003 California Ladies State Championship.

2:00 The 10th level is a 150 ante, 300 bring in, 800 complete with 800/1600 limits. 10 more until a paycheck.

1:55
OK. This will have to appease the masses, and I am quite certain there are masses here reading this at 2am pacific time....anyway....there are 34 players left, 5 tables. I recognize these players and these are their approximate chip counts:

Mel Judah 18K
Erik Seidel 11K
Gavin Smith 14K
Howard Lederer 20K
Jennifer Harman 24K
Jean Robert Bellande 35K
Vince Burgio 15K
Allan Boston 7K

1:38
It's a beautiful thing to get all in and have AA33 showing. (inside this man must have been doing the whoopiiiiiieee dance because he had another ace hiding under there). OK. Here is the amzing thing. The waitstaff now walk through the room, not calling out, cocktails, cocktails?? but, water....red bull...water....red bull... what is this gambling world coming to??????

1:35
Going back out for a snoop. Cross your fingers I run into something utterly amazing. OK. Cross your fingers I come back with something...anything.

The only thing truly noteworthy was Nolan Dalla eating a really good looking chocolate doughnut followed by a nice tasty gulp of cold milk. BUT WAIT...there's more....the milk had an expiration date of tomorrow on it, but the cottage cheese consistancy made Nolan say things and do things I cannot begin to describe on here. Had it been me, my reaction would have gone much farther than his. Suffice it to say, he is fine, and the milk was promptly returned to the little "lets mark the stuff in here up 800%" store.

1:20
6 tables and 47 players left. We wont get to see any money start to flow until we get to 24 players. The all in moves are abundant but unremarkable when there is a split pot. ONLY if someone is clever, lucky and skillfull enough to scoop does anything noteworthy take place.

1:10
Well, "Men the Master" just pulled off a great "bang for the buck" all in move. He got all in and got 4 callers. They didnt all hold up for the entire trip, but, they donated nicely. He had 900 in chips. We dropped two on 5th street but Gavin Smith and another player stayed heads up. Men ended up with Aces up and Gavin a low and the other player short about 4000 in chips.

12:25
Punch it up a notch. The $25 chips are being removed and colored up. We move to round 9 which is 100 ante, 200 bring in, 600 completion, 600/1200 rounds. We will begin to see the gnawing away of the weak. Its a good thing you arent here, it isnt a pretty sight.

12:10 With the players in the 8th level, 75 ante, 150 bring in, 400 completion, 400/800 levels, it wont be long until these short stacks meet the felt.

12:00
Just took the midnight stud stroll. Less than 65 left. The good news is that there are really 4 women left. I dont know how I missed one, because they all look like women. Guess I am just tired. There are quite a few short stacks, but, they belong to players I dont know. I dont want to ask them their nam right before they bomb..so, Ill wait til I see one that involves one of the name brand models.

11:40
Mike Matusow is out. He had to go all in when his down cards were 3 5 and his up cards were A 7. He was praying for a low. The 3 paired and a K J made life miserable.

11:15
Well, just lost "Miami John" much to my chagrin. He stood up and told his opponent nice hand and left the table. He is such a gentleman.

11:00
The players are on a 15 minute break. There are 80 left. Mark Burtman just ran into rolled up aces and excused himself to have a talk with lady luck. She gave him two nice pair and failed to clue him in. He was very disappointed to say the least.

85 and counting. Three ladies left. Looks like we will get through level 10 tonight, hopefully. That means we should wrap up around 2:45am. IF it all goes as planned (Sharla falls on the floor and laughs until she cries).

10:20
I scooted through the room really quickly to see how Miami John is doing. To my delight, he is back up to 2700. We have dropped below the 100 mark. These are some of the people I recognize.

Gavin Smith
Chris Grigorian
Brett Yungblutt
Kiril Gerasimov
Jean Robert Bellande
Men Nguyen
Mel Judah
Mickey Appleman
Jennifer Harman
Mike Matusow
Huck Seed
Mark Burtman
Miami John Cernuto

Erik Seidel
Howard Lederer

Down to 112 players. Greg Raymer will not be vying for the bracelet today. Minh Nguyen couldnt made his chips last either.

9:30
"Miami John" Cernuto and Greg Raymer are sitting on tiny stacks. John got down to the felt and pulled out a low on 7th street. Just a few less than 140 left now with only 5 women. The 10% mark is looking pretty bad now. Glad I didnt do a over/under on it.

"Miami John" Cernuto 600

9:15
The players start at level 7 now. 50 ante, 100 bring in, 300 completion and 300/600 limits.

7:45
The dinner bell just rang and there is a mass exodus from the Stud 8 area. The players will resume at 9:00PM. Be there or be square.

7:36
I always have to back my gals, and I am thrilled to say there are still 11 of them standing in this event. Not quite 10%, but, I think it will get there. Their stacks looked pretty healthy.

7:30
Seems there are less than 150 now because the limits have brutalized some of the shorter stacks.

7:15
Greg Raymer and "Men the Master" get all giggly at the table. They both have about 2400 and Men eggs Greg to stay in the hand with him as Greg has a 6h showing to Men's 3s. Greg laughs and raises to 300 and Men re-laughed and called. Men catches a Kd and Greg a 5c. They both elected to check this one by. The 3h came for Greg and a Kh for Men. Men bet 300 and Greg called. Not so much laughin' now. In the end, Men scoops and leaves Greg with about 750 fewer chips.

7:00
Fewer than 190 remain.
Wooohoooo....I have a hand to write about..

Kiril Gerasimov just went all in against 2 other players who were also all in. Kiril had a 5d Kd 5c 7d and had 4d 8c in the hole. The other two showed two pair and no low. The last down card hit Kiril right between the eyes with a 6c making him a 7 high straight and a low for a scoop and two bust outs.
