Claiming the highest betting limits in Las Vegas and possibly the world, Binion's Horseshoe is the professional gamblers' casino of choice. Every year, Binion's hosts the World Series of Poker, a high-roller event that has become the most famous poker tournament in the world since its inception in 1970. This close to forty day event is usually held in mid-April to May, and draws the best players in the world. You can enter the competition by winning local satellite tournaments or by putting up the $10,000 entrance fee. In 2004 there were 2576 entries, for a first place prize of $5 million dollars.
Although it is most famous for its gaming, Binion's Horseshoe has several attractions which are well worth a visit. The Poker Hall of Fame wall inside the casino honors the greatest players in the history of poker, and the Binion's Steak House, high atop the casino, offers what many consider to be the finest steaks in Las Vegas. Binion's is located in the center of Fremont Street, where two million light bulbs and 540,000 watts of sound transform the canopy into the world's largest animated light show every night.
