Up Coming Major Events:
Jack Binion's World Poker Open
New England Poker Classic 2001
Tournament Chatter By Susie Isaacs.
Suzie IsaacsMore Ways to Win Your Way into the "Big One"

The World Series is right around the corner and it is not easy for most poker players to shell out ten grand to enter the big event. However, to reiterate, where there is a will, there is a way. More and more poker players with million-dollar-plus dreams are discovering new tournaments and satellites to win their seat.

Binion's, home of the WSOP, has already started their creative one-table satellites. These one-table satellites are a bounding board for a final table every Saturday. Binion's runs as many one-table satellites as possible, Sunday-Friday. The winner of each of these one-table satellites return on Saturday and play another one-table satellite. The winner of that table is entered into the "Big One." The buy-in for the one-table satellite is 125, and the best part is, if you win your first one-table, you get $100 back. So, in reality, you could actually play the big one and win a million dollars-plus, all for an investment of $25. The only thing better than that would be winning the WSOP Warm Up on Pokerpages for free. If you accomplish either of these Herculean feats, please let me know because you will be a story to write!

These are just a few ways of winning a seat in the WSOP, there are hundreds more, many taking place in home and private clubs across the country, indeed, around the world. I will keep you up to date with as many as possible between now and the 2001 World Series of Poker.

JV's Hit and Run By John Vorhaus.
John Vorhaus SUBJECTIVE REALITY

Subjective reality is where the hand you folded an hour ago becomes the hand you raise with now. What was a clear laydown an hour ago (when you still had your good discipline and your wits about you) is a clear invitation to rumble now.

You know how it happens. You sit down at the game, determined to play your best, most thoughtful poker. And you do... for a while. But then you throw away one of those innumerable jackthrees, only to flop a "would be full house," jacks over threes. Now you start to second-guess yourself. If your luck's running that way, you reckon, you'd be a fool to run away from that luck. But what's that thing a fool's soon parted from?

Oh, yeah, his money.

Thinking that luck is on your side, you loosen up your starting requirements. You limp in with something like K-T, delighted when the flop comes ten-little-little, and then pained and crippled when you're outkicked by someone else's A-T or run over by their pair of queens.

Now your nose is open. You have to get well, and it has to be now! So you start pressing your (nonexistent) luck. You try to make 7-6 act like A-A, only to blow off another stack and a half when some (sensible) player calls with pocket eights and flops a set. It's a slippery slope from here, my friend, and you won't hit bottom till your chips are gone.

Subjective reality has no place in poker. There's only the right move, right now, the latest possible decision based on the best available information - and not based on spurious, mind-clouding emotions like hope, fear, greed, self-pity or rage. If you can't play poker with pure objectivity then you'd better not play it at all, because the money you lose will be very real indeed.

So what are your thoughts on the subject? What sends your game into a tailspin or, conversely, starts you hurtling up the blessed ladder of a rush? -jv

European Poker By Tina Napolitano
Mark and Tina Napolitano The Spring Tournament is underway at The Aviation club, with the first 4 events being won by the following French men - Giles Haddad, Guy Sitbon, Christophe Drach and Dan Uzan. I am sure that now the big Tournament is over in the UK many of the players will be taking the chunnel to catch the last events from The Aviation. For further tournament result information click here.

The schedules have been coming in fast and furious from casinos in Europe, making sure that the players get as much time as possible to plan their poker playing schedule for the rest of 2001. Some of the new ones are - Midnight Sun from Casino Ray in Helsinki, Taleon Masters from St Petersburg in Russia, Torneo De Poker from Hit Casino, Slovenia, Marianlyst Open from Denmark, and also the Danish Open 7-Card Stud Tournament.

The Grosvenor Casino in Luton had such a huge success with their last event that they have just slipped in another Tournament for April 16th - 22nd.

The growth of Poker Tournaments in Europe has been incredible this year, last year I put in results for 62 events and this year I have already entered 57 Tournaments into the database and it is only March. The attendance are also up on all of the events so far this year, meaning increased prize money. All good news for Poker players worldwide.

Well until the next issue, Take Care and Be Lucky

The winner of this event was Pascal Perrault from France, taking home a prize of 56,330 pounds, 2nd place was won by Asher Derei who got 28,820 and 3rd Vic Rooney with 14,410.

7 days of action packed Poker playing, and the 1st 2 days events were sold out days before the events took place. The winner of the other events were John Kabbaj, Marcel Luske, Tony Hakki and Gary Jones. For more information on the other places click here

Everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if the Poker Million is going to take place, and if it takes place, where it will be held this year. Gala have taken over the Ladbroke Casinos and hotels, and although Ladbrokes held onto the Poker Million Tournament they are waiting to find out if they can still hold it in the Isle of Man. If not then there is plan B, to get a major company to sponsor the whole event nd move it to another venue. Keep you posted as we hear it.

Poker Down Under By David Parlor
David Parlor

The National Championships in Canberra have just concluded and were again enjoyed and appreciated by the players that participated. Congratulations to Michael Marcos, John Madaffari, and Leo Boxell (all from Melbourne) who took out he top three placing's in the main event.

An interesting addition to the poker action this year was a visit to the Canberra races, where Casino Canberra offered an open bar and lunch (I wish they had just given me some race tips). Many of the poker players proved that they should stick to poker and not punting on horses, some did however prove they could do both.

The tournaments in Canberra were supported by some good live action. The live games included 3 Card Manila, 7 Card Stud, Holdem and a high limit Omaha game. The 7 Card Stud appeared to be the most popular game with there always being a list for it. It was interesting game, being played without ante’s and only one $5 blind. The low card had to bring it in for $5 an thereafter the limit was half pot. The Dealers Choice game was one that captured my interest where most of the local players were choosing Faro, a game that was very new to me.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with this game, it is a variant of Omaha. You begin with five cards in your hand and the first board card exposed. There is a betting round as each additional card is exposed with the limits doubling on the last two cards. If ever you wanted a game to create action- this is it. When you can choose from nine cards (two from you hand must be used) many of the players found an excuse to play anything. I soon realized that the players at this table craved action and were not content with the smaller pots that the Holdem game offered (maybe it was the collective groan I heard when I chose Holdem).

WSOP Warm-Up By Tina Napolitano
WSOP Warm-Up All seems to be going well with the 40 tournaments per week. Most players are happy and that includes the qualified players that now have the chance to play in 4 practice events per week.

We have now appointed a new card room manager. His name is Joe. If you have any problems or concerns that you want to communicate to him, please email Manager@pokerpages.com He will be sure to get back to you quickly to resolve your issues. It has also been brought to our attention that many of you have more than one account. Having more than one account means instant disqualification!

Anyone that emails us within the next week by March 16th to let us know that they have more than one account will have the extra accounts deleted with no questions asked. Anyone found after March 16th with more than one account will be instantly disqualified from the Warm Up. Please email Manager@pokerpages.com with this information. Obviously, we are going to be checking all account information thoroughly.

Time is passing by quickly and we are fast approaching the main event That tournament will be held,

SATURDAY 14TH APRIL 3.00PM.
