Pot Limit has now been added to the satellites in the Fun Play
Ring Games coming to PokerPages Cardroom for testing next week !!!!
The Final table now stays open for three minutes after the winner has been declared so observers and players can continue to
Chat.
All prize money is divided among the final players by rounding down. That's the way it has always been. Now, the first place winner gets all the money lost due to this rounding. For example, if $50 is to be distributed among the final players and the rounding causes only $49 to be distributed, the first place winner will get the extra dollar.
Finally, due to popular demand, the last person to bet on the river is forced to show his/her hand. This will happen even if the 'Muck all losing Hands' box is checked.

We are still awarding Poker Dollars, but this time it is a slightly different system. You play in the Fun Play area and your play in the tournaments is calculated and included in a ranking system (20 games per month).
The top 3 players on the ranking system at the end of the month win, 3 months, 2 months, and 1 month respectively in PokerSchool Online.
For more information on the latest Poker Dollars promotion, click here.
If you are already a PokerSchool member, then you can also participate in the Fun Play tournaments. If you win then, the time will be added onto your existing membership.
Old Poker Dollars Program
If you still have Poker Dollars that you have not yet claimed for tournament play in a live casino, don't worry: They are valid for a year. These can be claimed at a casino or cardroom of your choice for a tournament buy in or you can use them for membership time in the PokerSchool.

A Poker Player's Prayer
Dear poker gods, if you do exist, I'm off to the poker room, 10/20 is where I'll sit. The game is Texas Hold-em, 10 players including me. I need your guidance, your strength and your control not to laugh out loud for the pot I just stole.
Pocket Aces under the gun would be nice, make the button fold he went runner runner on me twice. AK suited please give me a flop, I hate to see my chips end up in someone else's pot.
Please I say, I need to hit this hand, I called 2 cold with it. And fear pocket Kings from the old man. The drunk is on a rush please slow him down, he's making me look bad and all he plays are rags.
I thank you gods for all you have done, you let my pocket Aces stand up. My straight draws hit the turn. Too bad I was snapped off on my pocket Jacks, when the dealer prematurely burned and turned.
In all it's been a good night, was only all in ounce. I give you my thanks and for that I call seat open. With that I leave now two racks ahead. I'm smiling all the way to the cashier. That goes to show with the poker gods, all you need is a chip and a chair.
Amen

| Professor Poker By John Vorhaus |
|
Dear Professor Poker,
My know-it-some boyfriend says that there are only a handful of truly successful fixed-limit poker pros in the world, and that anyone who has an ounce of talent for the game should concentrate on no-limit and pot-limit because that's where the real money is. Doctor, I count on you for the straight poop.
Carrie Nation
Dear Carrie,
Pot-limit and no-limit are the black diamond ski slopes of poker. Some people play so badly in these games, where bad play can be so costly so quickly, that they lose all their money almost right away. That's why there's limit poker, so that people can go broke more slowly.
Your know-it-some boyfriend is somewhat right when he talks about the potential big scores that pot-limit and no-limit offer. No matter how good you are, it's hard to get truly insanely rich one bet at a time, so that's the downside of fixed-limit poker for the serious professional. But to say that no serious pro can be successful playing only fixed-limit, well I would respectfully nominate your know-it-some boyfriend for last float in the clueless parade. Any game that's beatable, and beatable for meaningful money, is a profitable home for the pro in the know.
Here's what the professor recommends: Try to get good at as many different styles of poker as you can (including not just various limits but also various games); that way you'll be able to beat whatever beatable game you happen to find.

February 2nd was the final event from the Golden Gate Classic at Casino San Pablo, with $180,000 guaranteed over the 8 events. This turned out to be a winner all round. The first event was a $50 + $10 buy-in and entry fee, and had a guarantee of $40,000. There were 365 entrants with 571 rebuys and finally, Bill Chen from San Leandro took home the first place prize of $19,320.
You can see all of the winning players' photos along with the results here.
Put a mark in your diary for the next event from San Pablo which is the Northern California Poker Championship at the end of March.
The action at the LA Poker Classic at The Commerce is HOT !!!!!, as we are up to event #6 - the Pot Limit Hold'em for a buy-in of $330. Players that are already there will start to rub shoulders with the famous players who will be arriving to take their places at the start of the first Million dollar guaranteed event on Saturday, Feb 9th.
Event #1 had 625 entries and 870 Rebuys, which made the prize pool of this $330 Limit Hold' em event $448,500. The lucky winner Randy Holland took home the first place prize of $165,945.
Speaking of winning...Nancy Friedman from the Commerce Poker Marketing team took the title of Queen of Hearts from the Bicycle Casino, when she won their recent all-ladies event. Star McCormick from Ocean's Eleven finished in 4th position. So Lady poker players beware, the lady casino staff are close on your backs for those precious titles.
Another special event that is taking place in February is the meeting of the RGP newsgroup at ESCARGOT. Again held at The Bicycle Casino, this promises to be even more successful than last year. Under the watchful eye of Lou Krieger, these 3 tournaments are guaranteed to be very enjoyable and the hospitality will surely be second to none. Look out for a trip report on PokerPages.com. Also the Bike's special Valentines Tag Team Event is on. Guess when? Yes, Feb 14th, with a weekend tournament starting on the 15th.
There are a few other events that I really should take time out to mention. These are a must if you are in the area, or local, or if you just fancy a change of scenery and want to get away and play poker. I would highly recommend The Oregon Open, from Spirit Mountain Casino. This takes place from the 13th - 17th of February, with 5 events with guaranteed money of $85,000 and the biggest buy-in is $200 + $30.
The other casino I will mention is the Chip Inn Island Resort in Harris, MI. On February 9th there is the Hugh Harris Tournament of Champions, and on the 10th a No Limit Elimination Tournament.
More to mention before I sign off from America -- The Hawaiian Gardens are having another $30,000 Freeroll on the 15th February. Qualifying to enter is determined by live play hours.
Bullwhackers in Colorado are having their Queen of Hearts (for Ladies only) on Feb 16th and Ocean's Eleven are starting their 2 day Go for Gold
on the 17th February, but sorry girls, George Clooney has moved on, though the poker action and hospitality will still be fantastic.
Take care

| Poker in Europe By Tina Napolitano |
|
At this time we are under way with the Euro Finals of Poker from The Aviation Club in Paris. They have just announced in a email sent out today that Amarillo Slim Preston is winging his way from Texas to Paris to participate in some of their events.
Maybe Slim will take the Heads Up title from The Aviation Club, where the manager Bruno proudly owns the title of the first ever World Head Up Poker Champion. This is the title that Bruno took right from under Slim's nose at last year's event in Vienna, when they were both Heads up for the trophy in a battle that lasted only 8 minutes.
The Omaha Poker Championship starts at Casino Austria in Bregenz on the 21st February and runs until the 24th, and basically that is all I have to report from Europe this time around. Also a late one to mention is the Prague Poker Open, which is being held at the Royal Prague Hotel and Casino from Feb 28th - March 3rd.

| Poker in the UK and Ireland By Tina Napolitano |

Well right now we are having the North of England Open in Manchester at the Grosvenor Casino, it is on from the 6th - 10th. Then on February 20th there is the Teeside Poker Festival from Gala Casino, this will run for 4 days from the 20th February.
February seems a relatively quiet month in England, and things will start heating up as we get into March, and we see the start of the British Open from the Vic on the Edgware Road. This as it happens is just spitting distance from the venue of this year's Poker Million, which is also being held at the end of March. So literally one event finishes and the next one starts.
Apparently the pre registrations for the Poker Million are now up to 108, and they are only looking for 300 entrants. Your chance to try for the million guaranteed to the winner and be on live TV with your play being watched by TV audiences by way of the glass table concept as used in the last Poker Million in The Isle of Man. This is also the concept used by the very popular series on channel four of Late Night Poker.
Jack McClelland is the Tournament Director for the Poker Million, and having spent time with him at The World Poker Open, I can guarantee that this tournament will be run with professionalism and precision. What a wonderful man he is, and what a wonderful job he does.
Well that is enough from me about poker around the world, and remember that February 14th is Valentine's Day, so don't forget that special person in your life.

| Poker Down Under By David Parlor |
Casino Canberra has completed their preparation for the 2002 National Poker Championships. In what I believe is a first for this tournament, all tournaments have been listed on their official website, including prize breakdowns and lists of blind levels. Include in this year's event will be an overall points winner with money taken from each tournament to form a prize pool.
As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, Casino Canberra have arranged a special tournament discount at the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel. As well as this they have also managed to secure discounted airfares through Qantas. The discount may be obtained by calling 1-800-684-880 and quoting "2955867". Unfortunately due to commitments in Melbourne I will be unable to make this event and would like to wish all the players the best of luck.
Crown Casino have recommenced their small weekly tournaments and have structured them so that part of the prizepool will go towards a freeroll to win a seat in next year's $10,000 No Limit Holdem Tournament. The top ten points qualifiers from both the Thursday and Sunday tournament will be eligible for the freeroll and may then get the opportunity to play for their share of the $1,000,000 prizepool.
For those that prefer a more direct satellite format to obtain a $10,000 seat, the last Saturday of each month should be marked on your Poker calender. For as little as $110 it will be possible to win a seat in the big one. Details of these special satellite days will be available soon and will be included in the next newsletter.
For any questions about Poker in Australia please email me.
