| Poker in America By Tina Napolitano |
|
Believe it or not there are many other events taking place as well as the WSOP...
Jan Fisher has just had a great time with the Oasis Open Poker Tournament from Mesquite.
This was a 5 day schedule with good numbers and great prize money. Hope to see this on the calender for 2003.
The Mini World Series of Poker reaches a conclusion at The Bike. Mike Fetter won the all around points prize with 226 points and a seat in the WSOP main event. He was in a great position this morning going into Day 2 with over 50,000 chips. There is not much time for the staff at The Bike to take a rest, as the America Poker Classic starts on May 23rd and runs until June 2nd.
Chip Island Inn has the 11th Annual Ben Shomain Memorial Day Weekend Tournament, which starts on Saturday 25th for 2 days...Hawaiian Gardens is hosting a one day $50,000 Freeroll event on the 25th, so if you have qualified make sure you don't forget...
The Bellagio is holding its first ever $10,000 No Limit Hold'em event which will run for 5 days from May 27th - May 31st, so those that have been fortunate enough to win something at the WSOP will surely take the taxi up the strip to try their chances again at a big buy-in event. The Bellagio is the first in a line of events that will be under the wing of the World Poker Tour, see Press Release section in this newsletter.
Oceans Eleven is also hosting a Memorial Day event. The Reno Hilton is hosting The Pot of Gold which will go from May 30th - June 9th...Also, The River Palms are hosting the Summer Fling from May 30th - June 6th.
So certainly plenty to choose from. Wherever you may be and whatever event you are attending, take care, be lucky and be safe

| Poker in Europe By Tina Napolitano |
|
Many of the European Players are currently at the WSOP and as we went into Day 2, Hans Pfister was doing ok with his starting chips of $14,500, but will it be enough to take him through to Day 3? I am sure with all the wins that he has under his belt and his wealth of tournament experience we could see him at the final table on Friday. Interesting thought, actually, how many new faces will be at that final table this year, and how many nationalities will be trying for the 1st place prize of $2 million.
There is not going to be much time to rest once the main event is over, as The Hit Casino starts it's annual Torneo de Poker on May 27th. So with travel time and jet lag to get use to, it is going to be a tough call for the players leaving Vegas on the 25th. That finishes on June 2nd and then it is straight to Vienna to the Concord Card Casino for The Austrian Masters which starts on the 3rd and runs until the 16th.
On June 11th - 14th there will be the 2nd World Heads Up Poker Championship, and I am sure that
Bruno Fitoussi will be there defending the title he won last year in the final battle with Amarillo Slim, which lasted 8 minutes. This is a great concept and one that will grow every year.

| Poker in the UK and Ireland By Tina Napolitano
|
|
With the World Series on everyone's lips it is difficult to draw your attention to other parts of the world other than Vegas. There was quite a contingent from the UK that entered the WSOP and as this goes to print, Dave Devilfish Ulliott was one of the very early cascasualtiesualities.
The Hendon Mob are in there and as of this morning, were still going strong. Would'nt it be amazing to see both of the Boatman brothers at the final table? A difficult call really to have to knock out your brother from the $10,000 event. I know that recently some players wanted to make a rule that relatives should not be drawn at the same table until the final table, but I am sure that they would play like true gentlemen until the bitter end, whatever happened. Ben Roberts and Gary Solomons were also still going strong.
So whats happening for those players that were not able to attend this years WSOP? Well on May 26th there is the South of England Poker Festival from the Grosvenor Casino in Southampton, and then the 2002 Irish Open Poker Festival in Dublin on May 30th - June 2nd. Grosvenor Walsall is also having the Midland Mayhem on May 31st - June 4th.

| Poker Down Under By David Parlor |
The Crown San Pellegrino 2002 Melbourne Poker Championships are fast approaching and many of the local players are sharpening their tournament skills in the weekly events. One of the main attractions of this Championship will certainly be the No Limit Holdem Super Satellite on June 9th for a chance to take your seat in the 10 K main event at the Australasian Championship in January.
For players that can't wait the two weeks for this, Crown will be conducting their monthly Super Saturday on May 25th beginning at 12:30pm. Two satellites will be held on this day. The first will be a $110 No Limit Holdem satellite freezeout. Prizes will be awarded as $110 entries or credit towards bigger buy in events in January 2003. The second tournament will commence at 3pm and will be conducted as a $100 No limit Holdem satellite with $50 rebuys, prizes will be awarded as credits for January.
While all of the regular tournament players are gearing up for Melbourne, the Dealers are preparing to migrate to Canberra. Casino Canberra has planned a Casino Employee Tournament on July 9th and is sure to attract many Poker starved staff from both Melbourne and Sydney. Entry fee has been set at $220 and the game will be No Limit Holdem. My money is on a Crown Casino employee taking the money after many of them proving themselves as competent players in the recent New Zealand Championship in Christchurch.
