Poker In America
Kevin Pratt of PokerPages writes about Poker in America

Wow November has turned out to be a major month for big events, actually it now seems like every month on the poker calendar has something to make your mouth water and your hearts pound. Foxwoods has become the latest Cardroom to add a $10,000 main event to their schedule, now joining the realms of not only the World Series of Poker, but The World Poker Open, LA Poker Classic, and the PokerMillion in the UK.

Howard Tolman  Brian Haveson  Tom Savitsky  Daniel R. White  Brad Pierce

Alan Shaw  Prince of Docness  Gerald Cheatham  Chip Jett  John Myung

The World Poker Finals in Foxwoods got off to a flying start with 462 entries for the first event. The $300 No Limit Hold'em produced a prize pool of $140,600 and first prize of $46,398 went to Howard Tolman. Event 2 $300 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo was won by Brian Haveson $24,420. Event 3 $300 7-Card Stud saw Tom Savitsky take the spoils and $37,400. Event 4 $300 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo was won by Daniel R. White taking $25,568. Event 5 $300 Limit Hold'em saw another great turnout as 432 players contested a first prize of $131,600 with the winner finally being Brad Pierce $43,428.

Alan Shaw won Event 6 $500 No Limit Holdem and $41,415. Event 7 $500 Omaha Hi/Lo went to Prince of Docness $25,840, Event 8 $500 7-Card was won by Gerald Cheatham $35,530, Event 9 $500 7-card Stud Hi/Lo went to Chip Jett $18,870 and Event 10 $500 Limit Hold'em was won by John Myung $28,730. This is a very well run event and Kathy Raymond along with Mike Ward really put themselves out to ensure the players have a wonderful poker experience while under the Foxwoods roof.

Full results from all the tournaments can be found on PokerPages along with the remaining 11 Events including the World Poker Tour Main Event on a daily basis. So if you want to know the results first check out the website each day.

The $500,000 Guaranteed Gold Rush at the Lucky Chances Casino got underway on November 2nd with a Super Satellite for the World Poker Tour and with 141 entries and 212 rebuys 9 seats were generated. The WPT Event will take place on Sunday 10th November. Go and visit one of the most friendliest cardrooms on the west coast of the United States, and be sure to be entertained by Matt Savage and his team, who will make your poker playing experience one to remember. Some of you may remember Matt, as he was one of the tournament directors at the World Series of Poker Earlier this year.

The first main tournament was the $200 Limit Hold'em which had 130 entries and produced a prize pool of $26,000. Steve Rolandelli from Redwood City took home $9,000 for winning. The Partners Bounty promised a $15,000 guarantee for 100 teams and there were no disappointments as 117 teams entered. 11 bounties of $200 were awarded as well but it was left to Reggie Gutierrez and Basit Aziz to take the main prize money of $8,000. The $200 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo saw 122 players contest a prize pool of $24,400 with Edwin Mayo coming out on top and taking $8,400.

Keep up to date with the play at Lucky Chances on the website.

Mark Burtman

Since the last newsletter the Costa Rica Classic concluded at Casinos Europa. Event 4 saw a somewhat lucky winner as the first prize of $20,275 in the $10 No Limit Hold'em went to Lucky Sanderlin. Event 5 was won by our very own columnist and respected poker player Dr Mark Burtman $19,210 and the Main Event $500 No Limit Hold'em went to Jose Rosenkrantz. The amount of Rebuys that take place in Costa Rica tournaments never ceases to amaze me, and every time there is another special event that takes place down there, they exceed the last rebuy record of the last special event. I thought Costa Rica was the land of the Sloth, exotic birds and insects, but now it is known as the land of the Rebuy.

Russ Hamilton

Bonnie Damiano, a well known lady in the poker world, certainly excelled herself with the events she has given us in the past months. First the 4 Queens and finishing up with an away from it all event with the Caribbean Poker Classic which was from Aruba. This schedule of tournaments concluded at the Excelsior Casino with the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em Main Event being won by Russ Hamilton $11,640 from a field of 12 players.

Well you ask yourselves, can it get any better in the pokerworld as we move forward and nearer to Christmas. I can assure you it will continue to stay just as busy and just as exciting. Christmas day is in fact the only day that PokerPages truly gets a day off, as there are never any tournament results to collect on the 25th December, not that I want to give anyone ideas, as I like it the way it is. If you want to see whats happening for the rest of November and make your Christmas arrangements early then you can look in the Tournament Directory on PokerPages where you will find the latest Worldwide Tournament schedules, not only for the end of 2002 but well into 2003.

If any of you have poker stories you would like to have published in the bi weekly newsletter or you have a schedule from your local cardroom that you would like to be posted on PokerPages, then email Tina@PokerPages.com

Now remember, wherever you may go to play, take care and be lucky

Poker In Europe
Kevin Pratt of PokerPages writes about Poker in Europe

The Moscow Open concluded with Sergey Zharkov winning the $300 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo ($10,511), Andrei Mitropolski winning the $1500 No Limit Hold'em ($21,021) and World Heads Up Champion Kirill Gerasimov winning the $500 Pot Limit Omaha ($12,740).

2nd place England

Some of the players moved on from Moscow to The Taleon Club in St Petersburg for the European Nations Poker Challenge. This event was set up and run by Englishman Murray Brown one of the best Hi/Lo players in Europe. Murray proved this by taking the final event of the team challenge Omaha Hi/Lo/ Stud Hi/Lo mixed game.

Julian Gardner

Jari Salonen from Finland won the Pot Limit Holdem, Kirill Gerasimov from Russia won the Pot Limit 7 Card Stud and Julian Gardner from England won the Pot Limit Omaha. Finland won the overall team competition from England in second and Russia in third.

One of the main European tournaments of the year has just started in Holland the Master Classics of Poker. Holland Casino put up €21,000 in a free roll satellite for the Main Event. Seven seats were generated and they were won by Simon 'Aces' Trumper, Peter Derker, Noah Boeken, Craig Grant, Dani Tanner, Hans Van Der Zijden and Patrick Morgan. What a great offer, over €20,000 given back to the players before the tournaments even started.

Oystein Halland

Holland Casino can take a maximum of 220 players and this number entered the first event €200 Limit Hold'em producing a prize pool of €77,200. Russian player Kirill Gerasimov took the spoils and €30,571. The €500 Pot Limit Omaha again saw the maximum amount of players with Norway's Oystein Halland winning €68,500. Pot Limit games seem to be a speciality of the Scandinavian players so it was no surprise to me to see one of the talented young Norwegian players take this event.

Koray Saka

The $200 No Limit Hold'em again had 220 players with another Scandinavian Koray Saka from Sweden taking the spoils and €39,996. For the full results and reports of the Master Classics as they happen check out the website on a daily basis.

Kirill Gerasimov

The player who is 'HOT' at the moment is a player who has been 'HOT' all year. He is one of the best players around in Europe and I think he will go on to better things at the World Series. He has the perfect temperament for the game and is strong at all forms of Poker. Kirill Gerasimov won in Moscow, St Petersburg and Holland since the last newsletter. On top of that he is already the World Heads Up Champion and in my view he is destined to win a World Series Bracelet.

Poker Cop Drawing Dead: A Poker Cop Mystery
By Robert Arabella

There has been a bloody shoot-out in the Las Vegas Majestic's Poker Room. A player, who has just lost $250,000 in one badly-played hand, has shot two other players before being killed by the Chief of Poker Room Security, The Poker Cop. Based on clues left on the poker table, The Poker Cop and his casino counterpart, Red Penny, continue their investigation.

Part 4 - Kidnapped

Red Penny, Penelope Fallon, Chief of Casino Security, and I go over the facts: "The late Scott Hadley buys into the Midnight Game, a $500-$1,000 limit hold'em table, and bets a quarter of a million dollars on a poker hand he never looked at until... Read more

Poker in the U.K.
Kevin Pratt of the PokerPages Team writes about poker in the UK.

Since our last newsletter we have had tournaments in Ireland, Brighton and Blackpool. The Rendezvous Casino in Brighton held their first major tournament week called the Harbour Lights Festival. Kaushik Hindocha took the £75 Pot Limit Omaha and £3,600, David Kaye won the £100 Pot Limit Hold'em and £5,000, Ray Millar won the Main Event £250 No Limit Hold'em and £6,850 and Mick Cook won the Pot Limit 7-Card Stud and £2,400. Congratulations to the organisers from the Rendezvous in Brighton who have another festival in December and 4 more tournaments planned for next year.

Lucy Rokach

Over in Ireland we have had the Irish Winter Festival, which is always a popular event. Lucy Rokach continued her great current form by taking the Main Event and another €27,000 to add to the £36,765 she collected at the Vic the week before. Once again she underlines the fact that she is the top female player in Europe. How about a few tips for PokerSchoolOnline Lucy?

Ross Boatman

The €400 Pot Limit Omaha went to another Vic winner Ross Boatman from The Hendon Mob. Ross collected €16,628 to add to the £74,000 from the Vic. For those of you who don't know Ross is a well known actor in the U.K so watch out when he is bluffing as you never know if he is acting or not. Ross is like a silent assassin stealing your blinds and when you do call him he invariably has the hand.

Alan Betson

The first event at the winter festival went to popular Irish globetrotter Alan Betson, one of the best players worldwide. Alan picked up €17,712 in the €300 No Limit Hold'em which will give him some more ammunition to take on the Americans again in their own backyard.

Dave 'DevilFish' Ulliott

The Northern Lights Poker Series in Blackpool saw the return of the DevilFish. Dave 'DevilFish, Ulliott proved once again there is no better Omaha player by taking the £100 event and $6,090. Dave has been playing in America and Aruba recently without much tournament success so I'm sure this is a prelude to him winning a big tournament again soon. Poker Million The Masters maybe?

Peter 'The Bandit' Evans

Peter 'The Bandit' Evans won the first event £50 Pot Limit Hold'em and £6,920, A Mallu won the £100 No Limit Hold'em £11,880, and Bruce 'The Bomber' Atkinson won the Main Event £250 Pot Limit Hold'em taking home £13,590.

Next up in the U.K is the Winter Festival at the Gala Casino Dundee, November 12th to 17th, with the biggest buy-in being the £500 Pot Limit Holdem. The Main Event however is a 2 Day Tournament at the weekend and has a buy-in of £200.

The player who is 'HOT' since the last newsletter is a split between Lucy Rokach and Ross Boatman. Both players have followed up wins at the Vic with wins in Ireland, showing that form does come in spells.

Next time it might be YOU doing the double.

You can e-mail me with any thoughts, views, or general information at kevin@pokerpages.com

Poker Down Under
Reported by David Parlor

The Hindmarsh game in Adelaide has found a lot of support over the last couple of weeks and has already attracted around 30 members. Some of the new members are players that have not been seen for a decade or so. Gofor is doing a great job at attracting new players and has had requests that two games a week are held, Sunday and a weeknight. For more information about playing Poker in Adelaide contact Glen directly by email, glengofor@pokernetwork.com

Ben Alaban has started a regular game in Queensland and has been well supported by many poker starved Queenslanders. For details about how to be a part of poker in Queensland email Ben at paddlepoplion@hotmail.com Ben runs tournaments as well as live games and is doing this primarily for his love of the game. Ben and Glen have taken on a lot and ask for very little in return, so next time you pay them a visit be sure to thank them for their time and effort, something that costs so little, but means a lot.

On the casino Poker scene, Crown is holding $490,000 in paid up entries for the main event in January. With two months to go I don't think there is any doubt that the $1,000,000 target will be exceeded with many players traveling from around the globe. Accommodation packages are still available at the 5 star Crown Towers although they are filling quickly. To book a package contact carleneb@crowncasino.com.au as theses packages are not expected to last.

Crown has planned a Special weekend of Poker commencing on Thursday 28th November with Christmas drinks at 6pm followed by some great tournament action throughout the weekend. Satellites will be run for The New Zealand Championships in March next year as well as the main event at Crown in January. I'm sure this weekend will see all of the locals comparing their tournament skills against many of the interstate raiders who always seem to do well when visiting Melbourne.
