Annette Obrestad

Born on September 18, 1988, Annette Obrestad was born and raised in Norway. Her youth was spent with a heavy concentration on education, but her fondness for competition led her to study bowling. But as she watched bowling on television, she saw an advertisement for an online poker site, where she started in free money games, won a freeroll tournament for real money, and began her young poker career. In her late teens, Obrestad was becoming known the world over for her online multi-table tournament skills, one of which she won by covering her hole cards during the entire game and “playing the players” alone. Other tournaments she won included the Full Tilt Poker Sunday Mulligan, but it was at the age of 18 that she tried her hand at the live tables. It wasn’t long before she was at the 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, where she bought in for £10,000 and won the entire tournament, taking down one of the most prestigious titles in poker and £1 million, equal to more than $2 million. From there, Obrestad took second place at the European Poker Tour Dublin Main Event in 2007, 13th place at the 2009 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, and won an event at the 2010 Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne while finishing in seventh in that series’ Main Event. With over $3 million accumulated in live events to date, Obrestad signed with Full Tilt Poker in early 2010 as one of the members of its elite top-tier team, just months before preparing to play her first WSOP in Las Vegas since turning 21.
