Darus Suharto
Born in 1968 in Indonesia, a young Darus Suharto and his family moved to Toronto, Canada. As he moved through his schooling, he attended York University and the University of Central Arkansas in the U.S. for his undergraduate degree, and then proceeded to obtain an MBA from Indiana University. The education led him to work as an audit manager for some companies as Deloitte & Touche and associate director of the Internal Audit department at York University. His certifications include certified general accountant and certified internal auditor. Poker caught Suharto’s eye in college, where he played with friends in casual live poker home games. But it was in 2005 that he deposited money on PokerStars and began navigating his way through the world of online poker. He discovered the value in satellite play, and in 2006, he played some satellites in order to try to win an entry to the World Series of Poker Main Event and won his seat for free. He traveled to Las Vegas that year and played in the event, cashing in 448th place for more than $26,000. The following year, he did it again, that time through an $80 satellite tournament that eventually won him another seat in the Main Event. The 2007 WSOP Main Event was his year, as he not only made the final table but ended up finishing in sixth place for an amazing reward of $2,418,562. Since that time, Suharto has claimed several other tournament cashes and continued to play live poker tournaments when time and convenience allow. But with his home and career in Toronto, it is the online poker life that best suits him.
