David Rheem
David Rheem hailed from Florida, and his young years were not easy ones. Poker came into his life and became a positive form of competition, driving him to play in his first Indian casino when he was 18-years-old. He started with low limit cash games at the Seminole Casino Hollywood, but just as he began to build his bankroll, life took him to jail for four months under charges of burglary, larceny, and marijuana possession. Back on the outside after his sentence, he moved to Los Angeles, California and turned his life around. By 2005, Rheem was relocated and ready to begin a transition from cash games to live tournament poker. With the help of a core group of poker playing friends, Rheem took to the European tables and played in the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo, making the final table of a no-limit hold’em side event and finishing third. Back home in the U.S., he attended the World Series of Poker that summer and cashed in two events. He won his first event at the Bellagio later that year, though he impressed more with his second place finish at the 2006 WSOP final table (second place) in a $1K NLHE event. But in 2008, Rheem not only finished fifth in a $5K mixed hold’em event at the WSOP, but he made the $10K Main Event final table. He returned to play it out for ESPN later that year and finished in seventh place for more than $1.7 million. Since then, he has been on fire, winning two events at the 2009 Asian Poker Tour stop in Macau and final tabling a third, winning an L.A. Poker Classic event, and final tabling the EPT London High Roller event in 2010.
