Dennis Phillips
Born in 1955 in the St. Louis metro area of Missouri, Dennis Phillips was born and raised in the Midwest United States. He led a modest life, many would say, and eventually settled into a job as an account manager for commercial company Broadway Trucks in St. Louis. Poker had been a pastime for Phillips, as the St. Louis and surrounding areas offered a number of casinos in which he could spend time at the tables. As he dabbled in tournament poker, he decided to travel a bit during vacation time, even heading to Tunica, Mississippi in September of 2007 to play some World Series of Poker Circuit events. He final tabled two of them and walked away with more than $4,500 for his efforts. The following year, he played a satellite at Harrah’s in St. Louis and qualified for his 2008 WSOP Main Event seat worth $10,000, and he traveled to Las Vegas that summer to play. What started as a fun trip turned into more adventure than he could have imagined, as he made the November Nine final table and took fourth place for more than $4.5 million. Since then, Phillips quit his day job and became a regular on the poker tournament circuit. He won a Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza preliminary event in 2009, made the final table of the EPT London High Roller tournament in 2009, and even finished deep in the money in 46th place at the 2009 WSOP Main Event. Most recently, he took third place in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship for $125,000. And he can always be found on PokerStars playing as one of its Team Pros.
