Eric Buchman

Eric Buchman was born in 1980 in Brooklyn, New York, but lived most of his life in Valley Stream, Long Island. It wasn’t until his college years that he began to take a serious interest in poker, courtesy of friends at SUNY Albany and his older brother. The siblings often took trips to a local Indian casino where the legal age to play was 18, but there were also visits to underground poker rooms in New York City. He did complete his degree in business, though, before pursuing poker on a full-time basis. Buchman moved up in stakes through the years, going from small games of stud and hold’em to $600/$1200 mixed games. Though cash games were his primary source of income, he eventually began to play tournaments in 2002 and immediately final tabled events like the United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City. He cashed in the World Poker Tour World Championship the following year, but his first victory came in 2004 at the New England Poker Classic, where he won the Main Event for $275,400. He then began to travel more often on the live tournament circuit. The biggest cash on the tournament scene came in 2008. He played in several World Series of Poker events that year, but it was the following year that his performance in the $10K buy-in NLHE WSOP Main Event that propelled him to poker fame, as he survived a large field to make the November Nine final table, then went on to finish fourth in the tournament for $2,502,890. And in 2010, he won his first WSOP bracelet in a $2K limit hold’em tournament.
