Eugene Katchalov

Eugene Katchalov was born on February 21, 1981 in Kiev, Ukraine, but he moved with his family to Brooklyn, New York at the age of ten and lived his youth in the big city. He focused on his education until graduating from New York University with a business degree, but it was during those years that poker came into his life. Though he had numerous business opportunities, he found that playing poker had become the most profitable endeavor for him, and it has been ever since. After a start in the world of online poker and the declaration of his career as professional poker player in 2003, it was in 2004 that he first cashed in a live poker tournament, with a fifth place finish at a no-limit hold’em event at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas and a subsequent solid run in the World Poker Tour Main Event days later. In 2005, he racked up cashes on the European Poker Tour and at the World Series of Poker. But it was in 2007 that Katchalov made a name for himself, and it happened at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio. He won a $5K NLHE Bellagio Cup in June of that year, but months later, he won the World Poker Tour event there, beating players like Raymond Davis and David Ulliott to win the WPT title and nearly $2.5 million. Since then, he finished third at the EPT London High Roller event in 2009 and won the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller event, all contributing to the overall lifetime earnings of more than $6 million to date.
