Gavin Griffin
Gavin Griffin was born on August 28, 1981, in Darien, Illinois. He proceeded with his education in the Chicago area until moving to Texas to attend Texas Christian University. At the same time, however, he was finding that he was a skilled poker player, and the ability to spend time honing his skills online as well as in live games with friends made it a profitable endeavor. He eventually became a full-time poker pro. It was in live tournaments that Griffin found his calling. Though cash games were his bread and butter, he started playing major tournaments, and by 2004, he did what most players dream of by winning a World Series of Poker bracelet. He took home more than $270K for the $3K buy-in pot-limit hold’em event and became the youngest player at the time to hold a WSOP title. He then played more tournaments, final tabling events in Tunica, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. But it was his trip to the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo in 2007 that put him on the global map, as he won the tournament and the €1.8 million that went with it. In January of 2008, he won the World Poker Tour’s Borgata Winter Open in Atlantic City, and the trio of victories made him the first player in the world to have won a WSOP, WPT, and EPT title. Griffin continues to play in tournaments around the world, cashing and final tabling events like the WSOP and California State Poker Championships. He now lives in Southern California, dedicates time to raising money for causes like breast cancer, and playing in cash games.
