Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier is a 24 year old American professional poker player. He won the largest live poker tournament ever held in Italy, which was an EPT event in San Remo. In 2009, Mercier won his first bracelet at the WSOP, winning event 5. He also posted a 4th place finish in the WSOP Europe main event in London. Born in Hollywood, Florida, Jason Mercier was raised in the sunny southeast corner of the United States with three siblings. He thrived on competition with his brothers and sister at home as well as in school, where he played several sports. He went on to attend Florida Atlantic University on an academic scholarship, and it was there that he found another outlet for his competitive spirit in poker, though that interest caused a loss of the scholarship and a return home to attend a local college. While taking classes, coaching kids’ sports teams, and working as a substitute teacher, he spent time playing more poker, which eventually led to a career as a full-time pro. Mercier began his career by achieving Supernova Elite status on PokerStars, a feat accomplished by few players. With a solid bankroll, he was anxious to then try his skills in live tournaments, and before he was 21 years old, he did just that at the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and on to the European Poker Tour. At the San Remo EPT stop, he turned his satellite win into a massive tournament victory that was worth almost $1.4 million. Since that EPT San Remo win, he final tabled the EPT Barcelona in 2008 and the World Series of Poker Europe PLO tournament that same year, and he won the EPT London High Roller NLHE event for £516K. He has since taken side event titles at the L.A. Poker Classic, Wynn Classic, and he claimed a WSOP bracelet in 2009 in a $1,500 PLO even. He finished fourth at the WSOPE Main Event in 2009, won an EPT side event, a tournament at the Southern Poker Championship in Biloxi, and the North American Poker Tour bounty shootout at Mohegan Sun in 2010 for $475K. in 2011, he continued his success by winning the NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout event again, and picking up his second WSOP Bracelet. This marks the 4th straight year of 1M plus earnings, and he now has accumulated more than $6 million in live tournament winnings alone. He continues to play the live circuit as a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
