Kara Scott
Kara Scott was born in Alberta, Canada, and she was raised and educated there, living near family until 1999 when she moved to the United Kingdom. Her career as a television commentator began in 2002 when she hosted the martial arts show “Now is the Time: Night of Combat,” her training in Muay Thai serving her well in that role, and she eventually went on to be the associate producer of the show. She then hosted High Stakes Backgammon and World Series of Backgammon for Canadian and UK television before moving on to Poker Night Live in the UK, then Sky Poker, and the European Poker Tour. As she segued into poker, Scott honed her skills by soaking up information and beginning to play the game as well as report on it. In 2007, she played in the Women’s World Open in Maidstone, where she not only made it to the final table but finished in sixth place for $5,000. She played in the Sports Stars Challenge the following year and won the tournament for £26,000. Later that year, she played in the World Series of Poker $10K buy-in Main Event in Las Vegas, where she finished in 104th place out of 6844 entrants to win nearly $42K. She also made a deep run at the EPT Budapest Main Event months later. But her biggest finish to date was at the 2009 Irish Open in Dublin, where she finished in second place out of 700 players to take home €312,600 for the big finish. Since then, Scott has continued to be a presence in the poker community as a television host for the likes of GSN’s High Stakes Poker, writer, and professional poker player with a sponsorship deal by a major poker website.
