Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano was born on July 28, 1978 in the very small town of Preganziol, Italy. He took up computer programming in school, and his penchant for numbers and detail even led him to dabble in the stock market in his early adult years. But his skills also took him to the poker tables, where his math abilities would make him one of the greatest players in Italy. He started at low limit games, though, and worked his bankroll to a level that allowed him to begin playing live tournaments. By 2002, Pagano was final tabling events at the Torneo di Poker in Nova Gorica, and the following year found him traveling for more tournaments, ending up at the British Open where he final tabled again. But in 2004, he first made his mark on the European Poker Tour with a third place finish at the Barcelona Main Event, which was worth €20,000. A few months later, he final tabled the EPT Deauville and finished eighth, followed by a 14th place at the EPT Vienna Main Event. Pagano became a staple at the final tables of various Italian poker tournaments, but the EPT was where he truly found international recognition, as the young pro ran deep in one event after another. In 2008, he finished sixth at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo for €337,000, his biggest score to that point, and followed that up with final tables at the EPT Dortmund, Warsaw, and Prague in 2009. As of mid-2010, he had 16 EPT cashes, the most of any player on that tour, with over $1.5 million in earnings for his career thus far, and he also plays online as a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
