Maridu Mayrinck

Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck was born in Brazil and continues to call Rio de Janeiro her home, though she has spent significant amounts of time in the United States throughout her life. She graduated from university with a sociology degree but began her career as a writer, and though she spent much time writing scripts for comedic and dramatic television shows for a Brazilian network, it was a blogging job for the Brazilian PokerStars blog that brought her to poker. A fan of the game since being taught by her father as a young girl and a casual player with friends since 2004, her immersion in the poker industry through writing was the best education. Mayrinck began to play as much as possible, and by 2007, she was doing well, making the final table of a nightly tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and running deep in a Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza tournament. Her 2008 World Series of Poker garnered her three cashes, but it was in 2009 that she stopped writing on a full-time basis to become a member of Team PokerStars Pro, playing online as well as in events around the world. That was the year that she took third in a major online tournament for a $29K payday, and she cashed in two Latin American Poker Tour events, two WSOP tournaments, and the European Poker Tour event in London. Playing as “Maridu” online and splitting much of her time between Brazil and America, Mayrinck enjoys success on the tournament trail and continues to improve her game as she reaches for her first victory.
