Nenad Medic
Nenad Medic was born on December 21, 1982 in Apatin, Serbia, though he moved to Canada as a young man and spent much of his life in Ontario, specifically the Niagara Falls region. It was a mix of his competitive spirit and height of 6’4” that brought him to the game of basketball, which he played for the University of Waterloo during his college years there. But that was also the time that he found poker, becoming familiar with the game through his teammates but honing his skills online. He ultimately quit school to pursue a career as a professional poker player. Medic segued from online poker to the live tournament scene, and by 2005, he was finding success in those events as well. His first live recorded cash was a final table at the World Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event, where he took sixth place at the televised final table for more than $112K. Though he recorded other WPT and World Series of Poker cashes that year, it wasn’t until the start of 2006 that he made another final table, that one at the Aussie Millions Main Event where third place was good for more than $275K. Later that year, he recorded his first win at the WPT World Poker Finals at Foxwoods, and the title came with more than $1.7 million. Going forward, Medic had numerous deep WPT runs, including a third place finish at the 2007 World Poker Finals and fourth at the 2008 Festa al Lago Classic. And in 2008, he picked up his first WSOP gold bracelet for a win in the $10K buy-in World Championship Pot-Limit Hold’em event. In total through 2010, Medic has accumulated nearly $4.4 million in live tournament earnings, in addition to solid online poker performances.
