Paul Wasicka
Paul Wasicka was born on February 17, 1981 in Dallas, Texas. As a youngster, he thrived on sports like soccer, wrestling, and volleyball, but he spent his evenings on more intellectual challenges like chess and backgammon, both of which he learned from his parents. During a ski trip with a friend as a young adult, he visited an underground poker room, which spurred him to learn more about the game. He played online and cash games, and though he initially ran through a sizable bankroll, he eventually learned the skills necessary to play well and manage his money. The live tournament scene caught Wasicka’s attention in 2004, but it wasn’t until 2006 that his bankroll offered him more opportunities to compete. In April of that year, he satellited his way into the $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour World Championship at the Bellagio, and he finished in 15th place for $146,460. More time in Las Vegas brought him to the World Series of Poker that year, and he made deep runs in two no-limit hold’em tournaments before running very deep in the $10,000 buy-in Main Event, all the way to the final table. He ultimately finished in second place to Jamie Gold and took home $6.1 million for the finish. Several months later, Wasicka made his first WPT final table and finished fourth at the L.A. Poker Classic for more than $455K, and then he won the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship event in Las Vegas for $500,000. Since then, he has become a fixture on the live tournament circuit, final tabling many events and even winning a 2010 WSOP Circuit Main Event in Tunica. With over $7.8 million in tournament earnings thus far, Wasicka continues to make a name for himself on the circuit
