J.J. began playing poker with family at the age of six. Played through high school, college, Vietnam, and corporate life.

In 2006, he began his twenty-sixth year as a professional, eleven in Vegas and fifteen in California. Coincidentally, he has won twenty-six major International "World Class" tournaments. Some of which are now defunct, i.e. Horseshoe's Hall Of Fame, Caesar's Super Bowl of Poker, Golden Nugget's Grand Prix, Bicycle's Diamond Jim Brady. J.J. won more than a million dollars in the old days when winning a million wasn't as easy as today, with more frequent tournaments and much higher payouts.

Over the past couple of years J.J. has had to go into semi-retirement due to back injuries from Nam. He now plays a few tourneys per year, but primarily on the net.
