Andy Black

Andy Black, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and currently living in Dublin, started playing poker at a very early age with his mother. In the mid-eighties while studying law at Trinity College, Dublin, Andy began to take the game more seriously.

He was a member of the Junior Common Room poker school, which bore poker poker professional players Donnacha O'Dea and Padraig Parkinson. Andy has the distinct honor of having been bad-beated by Stu Ungar in the 1997 World Series of Poker main event, with his A-K getting cracked while Stuey held A-Q and went on to win the championship.

After suffering defeat the following year as well, Andy spent five years as a semi-monastic Buddhist. When he made his return to the poker ring in 2004, Andy came back with a bang. He performed exceedingly well in the tournaments of his Irish home, and placed fifth in the 2005 World Series of Poker and taking home almost $2 Million for his efforts.
