After a full day in the Cancer Center with her two-year-old son (he's quite healthy today), Michele Lewis found temporary relief with friends in a weekly poker game. Lewis says "Ninety percent of the players were attorneys, which meant endless strategy debates. So I bought and read every poker book available just to be right." A year later, she made a WSOP final table and has added 3 more WSOP cashes since. Including an invitation to join the 2008 WSOP Queen of Hearts Team. Her husband nicknamed her The Black Widow because she's fun at the table but because she's so patience she can kill your chip stack. However, Black Widow never stuck and Wicked Chops Poker quickly labled her as The Poker Cougar. She claims it's an inside joke and considering she's a University of Houston Cougar... that could be the case. Lewis' goes on to say she doesn't mind the "Black Widow" nickname because "I read that the spider only eats her mate if he attacks her eggs. If that is true, then you have to respect a woman who will do anything for her children." Lewis' true passion has been finding her voice writing in the poker industry. She has found her niche in the poker media community and she claims has gained some wonderful friends. Although Lewis was unable to attend the 2009 WSOP, she did write WSOP Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack's speech for the Women's Poker Hall of Fame dinner.
