Wed, Jul 9th, 2008 @ 12:00am

At the the World Series of Poker Tuesday July 8, 1,251 combined Main Event Day 1A and 1B players returned for Day 2A to continue their fight for glory, gold, and their share of the more than $64 million prize pool, and a shot at the first place prize of $9,119,517. When the dust settled after 10 hours of play, only 465 of those players remained. Some of the bracelet holders who were sent home early today include: Bill Edler, Svetlana Gromenkova, Robert Varkonyi, Scotty Nguyen, Barry Greenstein, Kathy Liebert and Blair Hinkle. Brian Schaedlich, who was second in chips at the end of day 1B, ran away with the chip lead late in the day. He finished with 750,000, roughly 350k ahead of his closest rival.

Meantime, the combined survivors of Days 1C and 1D will get back into action at noon today, Wednesday July 9 for Day 2B. 2,378 players will return, straining the capacity of the Rio's convention center. If Day 2A was any indication, that number will be nearly cut in half by dinnertime. Henning Granstad is the chip leader, but Victor Ramdin, David Singer, David Oppenheim, Brad Booth, and Evelyn Ng are also high on the leader board.

The 465 survivors from Day 2A will join the survivors of today's Day 2B tomorrow, Thursday July 10, at noon for Day 3 action.
