58 Co-Sponsors, But is Frank's Internet Gambling Bill Out of Time This Year?Wed, Sep 30th, 2009 @ 12:00am This past week, four more Congressional representatives signed as co-sponsors to Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (H.R. 2267), the bill to license and regulate online Poker and Internet Gambling for US residents. The four new co-sponsors are Representatives: Lynn Woolsey (CA), William Clay (MO), Adam Schiff (CA), and Christopher Murphy (CT). Though H.R. 2677 continues to wait to be heard before committee (click here to track the bill's progress), support continues to increase for the measure, including support from Republicans who expressed concern for individual freedoms. There are now 58 co-sponsors for the bill to date (clich here for full list of co-sponsors- click on 'show cosponsors' toggle in Sponsor section near top). Frank had originally said the bill would be reviewed by Easter. But his Financial Services Committee has been dealing with a much higher priority, the national economy. Committee review has since been pushed back to July, then September. Now some have remarked that it is unlikely the bill will be discussed before the new year arrives. A second Frank bill, postponing the implementation of rules concerning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), needs to be acted upon quickly if it is to take effect before December 1st, when the UIGEA must be implemented by financial institutions.
