APPT Charity Event Produces Different Kind of Poker Winners

Ten top players from the 2008 PokerStars.net Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Grand Final met again over the felt this week, but this time by invitation-only to benefit charities of their choice in the APPT Tournament of Champions in Sydney Australia. An AU $50,000 prize pool was up for grabs, with AU $45,000 going to the winner's charity and AU $5,000 going to place two's favorite charity.

2008 APPT Sydney Grand Final Champion Martin Rowe competed with other notable poker pros, including: 2005 WSOP Main Event champion and Team PokerStars Pro Joe Hachem; 2007 APPT Macau High Rollers champion Eric Assadourian; 2008 APPT Manila champ Van Marcus; 2008 APPT Auckland winner Daniel Craker; 2007 APPT No. 4 champion Grant "Grunter" Levy; 2008 APPT Macau champ Eddy Sabat; poker pros Vanessa Rousso and Lee Nelson; and Team PokerStars ace Chad Brown.

The exciting highlight of the game came when 2008 APPT Sydney champ Martin Rowe was heads up with top pro Vanessa Rousso with a 2 to 1 chip lead. But after some back-and-forth, Rousso triumphed.

Rousso had chosen a new charity called the No Limit No Profit Initiative, which will receive the first place winner's check for AU $45,000. This new charity is a means for poker players to give back to their communities. This initiative reports their upcoming charity event will raise money for cancer research and to send medical supplies to underdeveloped areas of Africa.

Rowe has selected the Save The Children charity, who will receive the second place winner's check for AU $5, 000.
