Betfair's Annette Obrestad Ad is Banned by UK Ad Standards Authority

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint made against an email advertisement for Betfair's online poker site, noting that the ad encouraged underage gambling by featuring Annette_15, the online moniker of 20-year old poker professional and champion Annette Obrestad.

The ad showed Obrestad's photo with the tagline: "Online experience I measured in games, not years. Join the new breed. Annette_15."

The ASA contended that ad implied that the young woman was 15 years old, and that Annette is not 25 years old, both of which would breach the gambling provisions of the CAP Code for the gambling market.

Betfair replied that their marketing department had been given clear instructions not to use the Obrestad ad in marketing materials directed at UK customers, and that they were disappointed she had been, and apologized for the error.
