Casinos Offer Poker Tournament Registration OnlineWed, Sep 26th, 2007 @ 7:00pm The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey is now officially the first casino in the United States to allow poker players to register for live poker tournaments online. Online registration for poker tournaments hosted by the Taj Mahal is available to poker players via PTSeats, on the company's website at http://www.PTSeats.com. "PTseats.com is a privately owned online ticket agency based in Miami, Florida," the company states on its website. "You will find tickets for virtually every major poker event on our site. If you can't find the tickets you want, call us! We're happy to help you locate great seats to any event, anywhere. We look forward to working with you and taking care of your ticketing needs." In order to use the service and lock up a seat in a poker tournament via the website, players review currently available tournemants and their schedules, select the seat they want, and charge their buy-in to a credit card. There is a 3-6% service fee for each transaction, and players are able to print out a ticket they can present at the casino in order to verify their seat assignment upon confirmation. PTSeats inventor, Fabricio Schaffrath, who calls the service the "Ticketmaster for poker tournaments," notes that players who have registered for a tournament online should arrive at the casino at least an hour before the tournament is scheduled to start. "This is a long time coming," says poker enthusiast and player, Jeffrey Long of Austin, TX. "This could be a way to avoid all those long registration lines that caused so many problems at the World Series of Poker this year... I'm just worried about security." The company is well aware of player concerns regarding security, and has touched on the issue on their website. "All transactions conducted on our Web site through a secure browser are protected by Verisign Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the industry standard and the best software available today for secure online commerce business," notes PTSeats' website. "All transactions are processed on our secure server with full 128-bit encryption. This means that all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, cannot be read as the data travels over the Internet." At present, the Trump Taj Mahal is the only casino offering online poker tournament registration, but according to PTSeats' website, other casinos should be soon to follow, including the Seminole Hard Rock in Miami, Florida, as well as the Wynn, Venetian, and Orleans, all located in Las Vegas, Nevada. (EDITOR'S NOTE: For the sake of posterity, the above article remains unedited. However, we wish to retract the statement that the Taj Mahal is the first casino in the United States to offer poker tournament registrations online. This is, in fact, not true.
