Dick Van Patten Poker Fundraiser for Animals on Jan 12

Dick Van Patten, father of television poker commentator Vince Van Patten, himself a long-running fan of poker as well as a veteran TV actor, astute businessman and animal lover, will host his annual Dick Van Patten Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament in Palm Springs, CA on Jan. 12 to benefit the many Animal Charities and Rescue Organizations all over the country that he has helped over the years.

PETCO and Van Patten's own dog-food manufacturing company, Natural Balance, are joining forces as the corporate sponsors of the fund raising event.

Besides helping Animal Charities and Rescue Organizations all over the country, Van Patten also sponsors organizations such as the ATF's Arson Investigation dogs nationwide. He has also teamed up with PETCO to raise money to help fund Guide Dogs of the Desert in Southern California, the facility that places guide dogs with the visually impaired. The annual Dick Van Patten Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament is held in the Coachella Valley and brings media attention and prominence to the greater Palm Springs area.

The fundraiser is set to coincide on the same day that Van Patten is honored with the 301st Celebrity Star at an 11AM ceremony on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars (at 125 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs).

Dick Van Patten has been in show business since his first modeling assignment at the age of three, according to the press release on Petconews.com. Few actors have had as versatile and as rich a background as Dick Van Patten. With a remarkable career, which includes more than 600 radio shows, 27 Broadway plays, 7 television series and 30 feature films including classics such as Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety," "Robin Hood-Men in Tights," "Westworld," "Soylent Green" and "Mr. Roberts." Dick Van Patten is still perhaps best known for his popular role as Tom Bradford in the long-running hit series, "Eight is Enough."

Van Patten has proven to have a good head for private enterprise as well. Since 1989, he and partner Joey Herrick have been supplying the public with premium quality dog and cat foods, via their Natural Balance Pet Foods company, throughout the United States, Canada, the Pacific Rim and Europe.

"We are proud to honor this Hollywood legend with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars" said Bob Alexander, president of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars who will preside over award ceremony.

Isaac Baron Dominates Caesars Classic Main Event
