Florida Poker Bill Becomes Law Without Governor's SignatureSun, Jun 17th, 2007 @ 12:00am Florida State Bill 752 (SB 752) to allow pari-mutuel card rooms to hold poker tournaments and Texas Hold'em poker games with no betting limits under more lenient conditions than at present became law this week, despite it not receiving Florida Governor Charlie Crist's signature. On April 27, Florida state Senate and House lawmakers approved SB 752 (click here for prior article). The bill permits pari-mutuel card rooms to hold Texas Hold'em poker games with single bet limits to be raised to $5. Poker tournaments can now be held with no betting limits if the buy-ins are less than $100. Cardrooms also have more leeway to schedule up to a maximum of 12 hours of poker action per day. And these games and tournament can now be held even when no live racing or playing is taking place on the tracks. At time of its passage, Florida Governor Charlie Crist was non-committal whether he supported the gambling expansion measure saying, "It's all in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. It depends on whether or not they're things that already exist." Gov. Crist added, "I think my approach to it is to see what passes and then have a chance to evaluate it." According to a notice on the Florida House of Representatives website, SB 752 "Became Law without Governor's Signature" this week and will become effective July 1st. If a bill remains unsigned in Florida, but with no veto, it automatically becomes law after a designated period, which appears to have happened here. Read Related Article:
