IGREA gets 45th Co-Sponsor for Regulation of Online Poker & Online Gambling in USA

by PokerPages.com
Sun, Dec 16th, 2007 @ 12:00am

California Representative Ellen O. Taucher (D.) is the latest co-sponsor for Congressman Barney Frank's HR 2046 Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA), a bill that seeks to license and regulate online poker and online gambling in the USA in an effort to counter the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that makes it illegal for financial institutions to handle transactions between U.S. residents and online poker and online gambling sites.

Congresswoman Taucher is the influential Chairwoman of the House New Democrat Coalition, the largest centrist caucus in the House of Representatives. This committee is charged with enacting policies that maintain U.S. competitiveness, meet the challenges of globalization, and strengthen national security.

She is also a member of the Aviation sub-committee; the powerful Highways, Transit and Pipelines subcommittee and chairwoman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee.

She has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1996.

Congresswoman Taucher is the third woman ever to chair an Armed Services Subcommittee, and she serves on the subcommittees of Air and Land Forces, and Oversight and Investigations, and is a member of the Water Resources and Environment subcommittee.

She also serves on the Board of the Battered Women's Alternative.

Congresswoman Taucher was one of the few who voted against UIGEA when it was slipped into the sure-to-pass Safe Port bill just before Congress recessed late last year.

Barney Frank repeatedly stresses the importance of voters contacting their congressional representatives and asking them to support his bill (HR 2046), as the biggest factor for getting sponsorship and support of the bill.
