Moneymaker Leads World Poker Open Final Table, Chad Brown 2nd

by PokerPages.com
Tue, Aug 11th, 2009 @ 12:00am

The World Poker Open Championship event resumed on Day 2 with 43 weary players, less than 10 hours after the end of Day 1. With only 18 getting paid, there was a long way to go to reach the money and the short stacks wasted no time getting their chips in the middle.

PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso started the day a bit below average. Her last chips went in when she flopped top pair with the nut flush draw. Her opponent was ahead with two pair, but Vanessa caught her flush on the turn. Unfortunately, her opponent caught the four-outer to boat-up on the river, sending Lady Maverick to the rail in 35th place.

Brand new Lock Poker player Mike 'GoLeafsGoEh' Leah started the day above average, but was stuck in reverse. He got his last chips in with a weak Ace and was dominated by a bigger Ace. He finished 33rd.

WSOP bracelet holder Mike 'Little Man' Sica was short-stacked from the get-go and managed to hang on for over four hours and 17 players, but then got his pocket Kings cracked by pocket Tens. He finished in 26th place, just eight off the money.

Kenny Milam made the final table of the WSOP Circuit Championship at Harrah's New Orleans in May, but will not be making a repeat appearance here. He got his last chips in with pocket Kings against Chris Moneymaker's JT. Chris flopped two pair and busted Kenny in 25th place.

Brent Roberts won the WSOP Circuit Championship at Harrah's Atlantic City last December, but his skill was no match for the Moneymaker machine. Brent got his last chips in on the flop with two overcards and open-ended draw. Chris had flopped top pair and it held up. Brent finished 23rd, just five off the money.

Chris Moneymaker took advantage of the tight play approaching the bubble and was collecting chips like the IRS collects taxes. When the bubble finally burst at 6:45pm, Chris had more than 775,000 chips. His closest rival and fellow PokerStars Pro Chad Brown was second in chips with 232,000, but more than half a million chips behind the leader.

After the bubble burst, play loosened up a little. Mike Wang, who started day two as chip leader, but got brutalized by drawing the set to Moneymaker's left at three tables, lost the last of his chips and departed in 17th place ($6,612). Last woman sitting Jennifer Parrish got her last chips in with AK, racing against Moneymaker's pocket Jacks. The Jacks held up and Jennifer left with $7,814 for 15th place.

Michael 'Carwash' Schneider's last chips went to Chad Brown when Michael's weak Ace was beat by Chad's AK. Carwash finished 11th for $9,017.

When the tenth place player busted out about eleven and a half hours after Day 2 began, the final table was set with Chris Moneymaker sitting at the head, followed by fellow PokerStars Pro Chad Brown:

  • 7 - Chris Moneymaker - Memphis, TN - 1,025,500
