National Poker League Vegas Open Covered by PokerPages

The National Poker League (NPL) kicked off its inaugural 2007 Las Vegas Open yesterday at the Venetian Resort, with a hefty $15,000 buy-in to the main event generating a total prize pool of over $800,000, with PokerPages.com live reporting covering the event.

Many of the biggest poker names in the world are competing, as the event is in their back yard, including: Allen Cunningham, Gavin Smith, Jennifer Harman, Jamie Gold, John Juanda, David Singer, Chris Ferguson, and many more.

The event is taking place in the heart of the Vegas strip at the beautiful Venetian Card Room. As well, a special TV feature table has been set up at which people passing by can stop and watch the action as it unfolds.

As play progressed during the day, many of the recognizable players enjoyed the atmosphere, the crowd, and the added celebrity of sitting at the feature table.

With the ever increasing exclusive partnerships between tournament organizations and media outlets, the NPL Vegas Open is a refreshing change. It has thus far provided an impeccable atmosphere, a very accessible environment for the poker fan, and an amazing array of poker names.

Day One of action has wrapped up for the evening with Sorel Mizzi leading with 168,600 chips. Play will resume today at 3pm local Vegas time, and will continue through Wednesday December 5th, at which time one of the players claim the title and the $325,105 first place prize money.
