Peter Dicks is Again Paradise Poker Sportingbet ChairmanWed, Jan 23rd, 2008 @ 12:00am Peter Dicks, who was in the 2006 spotlight when he was arrested on a Louisiana state sealed warrant for illegal gambling charges while in New York, is back again with Sportingbet, parent to Paradise Poker, having accepted the appointment of non-executive chairman, effective February 1st. The respected veteran businessman (65), who was freed when his extradition to Louisiana was blocked by New York governor George Pataki's office, had been chairman since January 2000 until his 2006 legal entanglement. He resigned from the Sportingbet board on September 14th to avoid future harassment (click here for related article). Last March, Sportingbet paid Louisiana authorities a $400,000 settlement to drop the warrant. Sportingbet has also appointed 41 year old James Wilkinson as Group Finance Director, again effective February 1st. Wilkinson joins the company from Johnson Service Group PLC, where he served as a finance director. Andrew McIver, CEO of Sportingbet, remarked, "I am delighted to welcome both Peter and Jim to the Group. Subsequent to our complete exit from the US market following the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act in October 2006 we embarked on a significant restructuring of the business. This is now largely finished and with these two appointments we complete the personnel changes we wished to make as part of that restructuring."
McIver added, "The restructuring and other initiatives we have undertaken since October 2006 provide the Group with a solid foundation from which to deliver future growth. Current trading is encouraging and we are confident we are on track to meet full year expectations." Read Related Articles:
