Plans for Latin America Poker Tour Announced for 2008

Tue, Dec 18th, 2007 @ 12:00am

Latin America may become host to an international poker tour, called the Latin America Poker Tour, (LAPT) according to a recent press release from Vega Promotional Systems, Inc..

The inaugural LAPT 2008 season plans to include tournaments in eight Latin American countries, including Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica, with a season ending Tournament of Champions to crown the number one poker player in Latin America.

Vega is currently negotiating with various professional poker players to become host for the Tour.

The tournaments will be structured as invitational events with players from all over the world able to win seats via online and live local satellite tournaments.

Michael Herron, CEO of Vega stated, "This is a very exciting announcement. No Limit Texas Hold'em has really taken off in Latin America and we felt the time was right for this type of tour."

He added, "We've all seen the success that other tours like the World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour have enjoyed and we feel that by utilizing our existing contacts in Latin America, we can produce a first class tournament that players from all over the world not just from Latin America, will want to participate in."

The programming will be produced by Vega and aired throughout Latin America. Vega will own the programming and is currently negotiating for airtime with a major cable provider that would allow the Company to sell its own advertising for the programs.

Herron noted, "Unlike a lot of poker programming you see on television, we are not attempting to sell the rights to a programmer, we will own the programming and will contract for the necessary time slots to air the one-hour shows. This will allow Vega to profit from the advertising, sponsorships, and replays for the programs."
