Poker and Golf Blend at 2008 World Series of Golf

by PokerPages.com
Fri, Mar 28th, 2008 @ 12:00am

The World Series of Golf returns to Las Vegas May 12 to 15 at the Paiute Golf Resort in the Southern Nevada desert, combining the skill of golf with the wagering format of Texas Hold'em poker.

Described as the most innovative golf event since the Skins Game, it will give up to 125 amateur players the opportunity to compete for $250,000 first place prize money on national television.

"The World Series of Golf is a completely new way to experience the game of golf. It demands skill on the links, betting savvy and nerves of steel," said Terry Leiweke, president of the World Series of Golf.

"For any golfer who has ever said 'I'd bet anything that I can make this shot,' now is his chance to prove it."

Played in a patent-pending method of play, the World Series of Golf allows for high stakes to ride on each and every shot of the tournament. Similar to poker, players must ante up before teeing off at each hole. Depending on the outcome of the tee shots, the player can then raise, call, check or fold on subsequent shots, with the winner of the hole collecting the pot.

The result is a dramatic competition in which every shot counts, and wagering strategy is just as important as skill. As in poker, when a player no longer has any chips to ante up, that player is eliminated. The winner of each group moves onto the next round until the final group yields the golfer who is crowned the champion of the World Series of Golf.

STRATEGIC PARTNERS

World Series of Golf achieves world-wide reach through a powerful array of strategic partners that include global leaders in sports, entertainment and media.

This all-star team includes The Mirage Hotel & Casino, Octagon, Bluff Magazine, The Custom Group, World Golf Tour, Van Wagner Sports, SME, and the Las Vegas-based media conglomerate Greenspun Media Group including Vegas Golfer Magazine.

A PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY

The World Series of Golf is a sports and entertainment company founded in 2004. Its activities include land based golf events, media and an online, skill-based method of play for the game of golf. The company's first land-based amateur golf tournament took place in Las Vegas in 2007

The World Series of Golf recently announced the completion of a reverse merger with Innovative Consumer Products, Inc., effective February 1, 2008. In conjunction with the reverse merger, the company is now trading on the OTC Bulletin Board under its new ticker symbol "WSGF."

"Our core business is land-based golf events, combined with broadcast opportunities and online skill-based play that bring together the skill of golf with the wagering strategies of poker," said Mr. Leiweke. "Over the past two years our patent-pending golf tournament format has gained significant momentum among golfers, sponsors, strategic partners and the media."
