Poker Pages to Provide Live Coverage of the 2008 World Series of PokerTue, May 20th, 2008 @ 12:00am
The 39th edition of the world's richest poker series, the World Series of
Poker (WSOP), is just around the corner. This year's installment will feature
55 bracelet events, which will run from May 30th all the way to November 10th.
Poker Pages will keep you up-to-date with all the exciting poker action, bringing
the best in live coverage from the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,
Nevada. The first of 55 events will kick off May 30th, but you'll have to wait a little longer than usual to find out who conquered the Main Event final table. Recent changes have created a nearly four month break in action after the final table bubble has busted. This will allow ESPN to run its regular WSOP coverage after the series has wrapped, but follow that programming up by crowning a Main Event champion November 11th on ESPN, just hours after the last pot was scooped.
The WSOP is unequalled by any other poker event in the world today and it is considered by all to be the ultimate achievement in any poker players career, to gain that coveted title of World Champion. Last year, Jerry Yang from Temecula, CA, United States, defeated 6,358 players, including the second place finisher Tuan Lam from Kitchener, ON, Canada, to win the main event at the 2007 World Series of Poker. The win was good enough to grab $8.25 million out of the total prize pool of $59,784,954. You can access all the event blogs from the WSOP 2007 by clicking here. STILL TIME TO REGISTER If you would like to compete in the 2008 World Series of Poker, registration is available online. You can find the necessary tournament forms and scheduling information at the WSOP registration page. Buy-ins range from $1,000 to $50,000, depending on the particular event. You must be at least 21 years old to compete. Underage players are still allowed to pre-register, as long as your 21 by the time the cards are in the air. We look forward to seeing you at the Rio in Vegas, or any time online at www.PokerPages.com.
