Poker Pro Phil Hellmuth Jumps to Spot 9 on ThePokerBiz Power 25
Tue, Jun 26th, 2007 @ 12:00am
The Poker industry's 25 most influential personalities and organizations for June were released by ThePokerBiz this past Sunday, with the biggest jump forward by Phil Hellmuth from spot 16 to spot 9 reflecting his recent win of record-setting World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet number 11.
"Hellmuth's win certainly put him in the spotlight and the days following his victory he was all over mainstream media," said Lance Bradley, Editor of ThePokerBiz.com. "His ability at the table is the only thing that eclipses his ability to market himself and obviously that was taken into consideration with his move into the top ten."
The #1 spot is still maintained by the WSOP with the World Poker Tour being a close second. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack previously moved to #4 in May, but fell eight spots in June to #12.
"There are a lot of the game's top players disappointed with some of the operational aspects of this year's WSOP," said Bradley. "While the event itself still carries a lot of weight Pollack's role as commissioner makes him the public face and some of those polled felt Pollack is at least partially to blame."
To come up with their monthly ranking, ThePokerBiz Power 25 considers many facets of the poker industry, including online operators, land-based operators, politicians, professional poker players, publishers, journalists and others with a strong influence on the game of poker and the billion dollar industry built around it.
The list of 25 is updated during the third week of each month and takes into account current events and the role each person or company plays in them.
Industry insiders, including those who helped develop the original list, are consulted for their input on the movement of each person or company.
