PokerStars Expands Season 2 of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT)Thu, May 29th, 2008 @ 12:00am PokerStars has announced an expanded Season 2 of the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), adding the scenic Auckland New Zealand as an additional stop on a tour of some of the most exotic destinations and luxurious locations in the world. Jeffrey Haas, President of the APPT, said: "Following the success of the APPT's first season, we're very excited to announce the schedule for Season 2 which includes a brand new event in Auckland plus increased buy-ins to create even bigger prize pools. The PokerStars APPT has brought a whole new dimension to poker in the Asia Pacific region and it's testament to the success of Season 1 that the tour is back for a second year, marking poker's emergence into a truly global sport." STOP BY STOP Season 2's first stop is on the island of Macau in the People's Republic of China, at the luxurious Grand Waldo Hotel and Casino, where PokerStars Macau recently opened Macau's first live poker room, and will run from September 1-9, 2008.
Macau will include two big events spanning the nine days: September 1-6 sees the $25,000 HKD buy-in Main Event (~ $3,200 USD, 2,050 Euro or 1,630 GBP), and over September 7-9 is the return of the prestigious 'high roller' event with a buy-in of $150,000 HKD (~ $19,200 USD, 12,350 Euro or 9,750 GBP). Both events guarantee a minimum prize pool of $10M HKD (~ $1.28 million USD, 822,000 Euro or 650,000 GBP) and will crown Asia's next poker millionaires.
Season 2's second stop is in exciting Seoul, Korea at the Paradise Walker-Hill Casino, on September 26-28 for a 3,000,000 KRW buy-in event (~ $2,900 USD, 1,870 Euro or 1,500 GBP). The third and new stop will be at the beautiful SkyCity Casino in Auckland, New Zealand from October 9-12 for a $3,000 NZD buy-in event (~ $2,400 USD, 1,500 Euro or 1,190 GBP). The fourth APPT stop will be in Manila, the Philippines. The exact dates of the Manila event have not yet been announced, but it will take place at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino, in Manila. It has been reported that is will be a $2,350 buy-in event with a maximum of 500 runners. Season 2 ends in December 2008 with the APPT Grand Final taking place at the fabulous Star City Casino in Sydney, Australia. This $6,300 AUD buy-in event (~ $6,050 USD, 3890 Euro or 3,070 GBP) will guarantee at least a $1,000,000 AUD (~ $960,000 USD, 616,400 Euro or 486,750 GBP)prize for the first-place winner and will be held in the casino's spectacular poker room overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The PokerStars' APPT tournaments will again be run by the region's most prominent tournament director Danny McDonagh under whose direction the Aussie Millions earned its reputation as one of the world's best-run and most successful tournaments. "I am delighted to be back for Season 2 of the PokerStars.net APPT. It illustrates how poker has developed in the Asia Pacific region and I am very proud to be a part of that growth," Danny said. Beginning May 29, PokerStars will run a wide variety of satellites giving players a chance to win their way into the events at their site, including some limited free-to-enter satellites, at www.pokerstars.net, so players across the world will be able to compete in these events, whatever their bankroll. Live satellites will also be available in advance at SkyCity Casino in Auckland for that event, at Star City Casino for the final event in Sydney, and at other locations to be announced.
