Rules to Obtain UK Poker & Gambling Licenses Unveiled

The U.K. Gambling Commission unveiled the new "License Conditions and Codes of Practice" document yesterday. Anyone who wishes to be licensed to operate a gambling business in Britain starting September 2007 must follow the procedures specified in this new document.
"Britain's gambling laws are undergoing wholesale reform, and from September next year all operators must be licensed by the Gambling Commission," remarked Peter Dean, the Commission's chairman.
Release of the "License Conditions and Codes of Practice" document was a planned step towards support of the U.K.'s Gambling Act of 2005. The Act will legalize, regulate and tax online and physical gambling entities located in Britain.
The Gambling Act of 2005 has three principle licensing objectives, which the new licensing document ensures are upheld: (1) to keep crime out of gambling; (2) to ensure that gambling is fair and open; and (3) to protect children and other vulnerable people.
