Sky Betting & Gaming Begins GamCare Training

by PokerPages.com
Thu, Aug 21st, 2008 @ 12:00am

Sky Betting & Gaming (which includes SkyPoker), with aims to lead the UK's betting and gambling industry in the area of social responsibility, has recently begun two new employee training initiatives aimed at delivering best practice in responsible gambling by rolling out GamCare's interactive training courses to the whole of Sky's betting and gaming staff.

Gamcare is the UK's foremost authority on problem gambling and leading provider of help, support and counseling services to problem gamblers. Their knowledge and training comes from years of clinical experience.

In addition to an overview of gambling in the UK, the GamCare courses share the reasons why people gamble and why a minority develop problem gambling. It also clearly explains how betting companies and individuals share responsibility for minimizing incidents of problem gambling.

GamCare also provides tools and exclusion options, giving information on gambling responsibly and offering further assistance whenever a customer asks for help.

"We were very pleased to see Sky Betting & Gaming launch our online training courses," said Andrew Poole of GamCare trade services. "Their investment in training reflects how seriously Sky is taking its social responsibilities and how they are working hard, together with others in the industry, to help counter problem gambling in the UK."

Richard Flint, managing director of Sky Betting & Gaming, said the training would include all commercial, technical and senior management teams, along with the customer-facing staff.

He added, "The training allows us to continue building our culture of responsible gambling which is so fundamental to the way we do business. I am pleased to say that our customers recognize this. Over the past year we have been asking our customers whether they think we are socially responsible and to date our customer surveys show that 96.3% say we are."
