Trump Plaza Casino to get First Automated Poker Room in New Jersey

by PokerPages.com
Mon, May 26th, 2008 @ 12:00am

Trump Plaza Casino has signed a contract with PokerTek to field test 12 automated PokerPro poker tables, creating the first automated poker room in the state, just steps off the famed boardwalk of Atlantic City. The poker room will open pending final approval by the State of New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

On the automated poker table, games are played around a central screen that displays a computerized dealer, and the community cards. Around the table, up to 10 players sit in front of their own individual monitors, playing against each other as they do in live poker games. The individual monitors display the players' individual cards. The table's program keeps statistics in addition to controlling the games action.

Automated tables are a lower cost way for Casinos to offer poker, according to manufacturer PokerTek. The automated tables allow a cardroom to deal more poker hands per hour, as well as avoiding the cost of live dealers. Some casinos have chosen to offer automated tables in addition to live tables, like the Mohegan Sun, in Connecticut. Some have chosen to offer only automated tables, such as the Casino de Montreal, in Quebec Canada, who recently held a fully automated poker tournament.

"The poker room at Trump Plaza is going to be a poker player's paradise," said Jim Rigot, General Manager for Trump Plaza Casino. "In addition to opening with a reduced $3 rake, our state-of-the-art poker room will have competitive game offerings, flat screens throughout, a comfortable lounge with convenient food and beverage offerings and blackjack tables. And when you consider the increased hands per hour and mistake-free play, it becomes an obvious choice for even the most seasoned players."
