Utah Online Poker Players Warned by State Officials

Officials from the state of Utah have been sending letters to online poker players residing in the state to warn them that they could be violating state laws.
Utah is one of the few states in the USA that frowns upon any form of gambling, including state lotteries which are so popular in many other states.
Last spring seven people and four firms were charged with multiple felonies related to processing transactions for online gambling and disguising credit card charges. Recovery of $150 million from the defendants is being sought.
Utah state enforcement officials have since obtained the names and addresses of Utah online poker players from databases recovered from the companies.
The four companies Companies facing charges are CurrenC Ltd., also known as CurrenC WorldWide Ltd., based in the British Virgin Islands; Gateway Technologies LLC, based in Draper, Utah; Hill Financial Services Inc., based in Draper, Utah, and Las Vegas.
