Washington State Poker Ban Challenge - Update

Since filing his legal action against the State of Washington's ban on online poker, Lee Rousso has been busy keeping the issue in the spotlight. Rousso, is the Washington state representative for the Poker Players Alliance, and has experience in both live poker as well as online poker tournaments.

The first update is that Lee Rousso was trying to get his case heard on an expedited basis, aiming for a hearing on the 31st August. However on 17th July he heard that the earliest date available on the Judge's calendar is 21st September. At which point the court could make a ruling from the bench, followed by a written opinion. However, it is possible that the court will not make a ruling there and then and the parties will need to wait for the written opinion. Rousso will need to submit his brief by 24th August, keep an eye on Pokerpages News for any updates on the progress of the hearing.

Secondly Lee has been busy on the local radio talk show circuit. In publicising the case against banning online poker he has received widespread public support. Both callers and radio personalities have been supporting the action and condemning the law. He has also been able to use his appearance on these shows to build up awareness of the Poker Players Alliance. Additionally by keeping the issue on the airwaves Rousso has been helping to build pressure in political circles. Due to this, should the legal route not go as planned, he says, "the chances of getting legislative relief have improved pretty dramatically."
