World Poker Tour Starts Spanish Championship Today in Barcelona

Wed, May 21st, 2008 @ 12:00am

Following the success of last year's Spanish Championship, WPT Enterprises and Grup Peralada are bringing it back again to kick off Season VII of the World Poker Tour at Casino Barcelona starting today, 21 May, with Europe's most popular and respected Tournament Director, Thomas Kremser returning to run the tournament.

Casino Barcelona will hold Super Satellite No Limit Hold'em (buy-in 200 EUR+20 EUR), with unlimited re-buys and add-on, starting from 3 p.m. on May 21 and again on May 22.

Next there are two starting days for the 5000 Euro + 300 Euro Main Event: May 23 & 24. The top seven players will receive WPT Player of the Year points for Season VII. The event concludes with the non-televised final table on May 27.

The main event is expected to draw a strong field of over 400 players, including Finland's Juha Helppi as well as poker professional and the new face of the WPT Poker-Made Millionaire(tm), Antonio "the Magician" Esfandiari.

"Since the moment I left Barcelona two years ago, I have waited for the opportunity to return," said Esfandiari. "It is such a beautiful city with incredible history- you couldn't ask for a better backdrop for an international WPT tournament. The Spanish Championship drew a tough field last year, and I expect the competition to be even bigger and better this Season."
